Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Emory & Henry, 81-45, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (7-5, 3-2 SAC) saw all 12 of its players put their name in the scoring column as it earned a 81-45 win over Emory & Henry College (5-6, 2-2 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles are the reigning SAC Tournament Champions and are picked to win the league by the conference's head coaches.

How It Happened
- E&H scored the opening basket of the game but C-N put up 22 in a row to surge out to a 20-point lead with 1:37 in the first period. In the second, the Lady Eagles continued to pull away using a 10-0 run over 2:50 for a 48-19 halftime score.
- Four straight by the Wasps to start the third cut the lead to 25 (48-23) but a 14-2 run by the Lady Eagles pushed things to 37 with 4:22 in the quarter. Carson-Newman would take a 67-28 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. The fourth saw the teams trade baskets as C-N cruised to the 81-45 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led the Wasps with 13 points to go along with seven rebounds while freshman guard Sophie Nelson (Parkersburg, W.Va.) notched her first double-digit game with 10 points.
- Sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had six points, four rebounds and two assists with senior guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) tacking on five points and four boards.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Braelyn Wykle posted a game-high 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting, adding three assists and two rebounds as Kali McMahan went for13 points and five boards.
- Campbell Penland scored nine points and had eight rebounds while Skylar Boshears notched nine points and five assists of her own.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot a chilly 18.5 percent (12-for-65) for the game with just three three-pointers. Then Wasps made up some ground at the free throw line, hitting 18-of-22 (81.8%) of their attempts.
- Carson-Newman made 30-of-63 (47.6%) of its shots including 12 triples. The Lady Eagles were just 52.9 percent (9-for-17) at the stripe.
- C-N held a 56-38 rebounding advantage and edged E&H 13-11 on second-chance points.
- The Lady Eagles also outscored the Wasps, 32-18, on points in the paint.
- Emory & Henry posted a 13-10 advantage on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 19 Carson-Newman miscues.
