Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Mars Hill, 95-68, For SAC Win Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (6-7, 3-2 SAC) saw four players reach double figures in scoring on its way to a 95-68 win over visiting Mars Hill University (3-8, 0-4 SAC) Wednesday evening. The Wasps move into a tie for second place in the South Atlantic Conference Mountain Division with the victory.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled to an 8-8 tie through the first two minutes of the game before six in a row by the Lions gave them a 14-8 advantage at the 5:37 mark. Emory & Henry then went on an 13-2 run to gain a 19-14 lead with 2:22 on the clock. The Wasps led by a 23-19 margin through 10 minutes of action.
- The second frame saw E&H run its lead to seven (26-19) with the first bucket but a 7-2 run by MHU close the gap to 28-26 with 5:07 on the clock. The Lions would eventually tie the contest at 31 points apiece, but the Wasps scored the final four to take a four-point advantage into the locker room.
- The teams returned to action, trading baskets for the first four minutes. Leading by four, Emory & Henry went on a 13-2 run, pushing the margin to double digits for the first time all game (57-42). The Wasps would go up by as many as 18 on the way to a 65-50 contest with one quarter to play.
- E&H continued to pull away in the fourth, building its lead to 81-55 with 5:09 left. The Wasps led by as much as 31 (92-61) down the stretch on the way to the 95-68 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led all players with 27 points on 10-for-13 shooting, adding 10 rebounds and two blocks to post a double-double.
- Sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) went for 24 points and four assists as sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) posted 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
- Senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) dropped in 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds with senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) tacking on nine points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals.  

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Janette Hanni put up a team-high 22 points with four steals, three rebounds and three assists while Maddie Gillie notched a double-double with 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Hannah Barr registered 16 points and six rebounds with Naja Ngongba chipping in nine points and five boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 56.1 percent (37-for-66) from the field with nine three-pointers. The Wasps were an efficient 12-for-14 (85.7%) at the free throw line.
- Mars Hill made just 24-of-71 (33.8%) of its attempts, connecting on five shots from long range. The Lions hit just 62.5 percent (15-of-24) of their attempts from the stripe.
- E&H dominated the glass with a 47-34 rebounding advantage and held a 14-0 lead on bench scoring.
- The Wasps and Lions both scored 36 points in the paint and 19 points off turnovers.
