No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne Women’s Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry, 60-52, Saturday Afternoon

HICKORY, N.C. – The No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne University Women's Basketball Team (16-1, 6-1 SAC) opened up a 38-16 halftime lead and held off a surging Emory & Henry (6-9, 3-4 SAC) in the second half on the way to a 60-52 South Atlantic Conference win Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Bears stormed out to a 10-2 lead at the 3:38 mark of the opening period on their way to a 20-9 advantage through 10 minutes of play. In the second, LR outscored E&H by an 18-5 margin for a 38-16 lead at the break.
- Emory & Henry scored 15 of the first 20 points of the third period to close the gap to 43-31 with 1:48 on the clock. Lenoir-Rhyne put the final six of the frame in its column to take an 18-point (49-31) lead into the final quarter.
- The Wasps started the fourth on a 6-2 run to make it 51-37 with 8:06 to go. An 11-0 run late in the contest got E&H within five at 55-50 with 95 seconds remaining but the Bears scored five of the final seven to come away with the 60-52 league win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) led the Wasps with 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals while senior guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) posted nine points five boards and two steals off the bench.
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for eight points, 10 rebounds two assists and two blocks as redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) tacked on six points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Jalen Gathers posted a game-high 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting to go along with two rebounds off the bench with Blaikley Crooks posting 17 points and seven boards.
- Maddie Dillinger scored nine points and had five rebounds while Emily Harman pulled down 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals despite not scoring.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 21-for-60 (35.0%) for the game with six three-pointers. The Wasps made 4-of-6 (66.7%) of their free throws.
- Lenoir-Rhyne made just 29.6 percent (21-of-71) of its attempts from the field with only two triples. The Bears made up the difference at the free throw line, going 16-for-24 (66.7%).
- LR held a 53-43 rebounding advantage and used 21 offensive boards to lead 17-8 on second-chance points.
- The Bears also posted a 38-26 lead on points in the paint and a 15-5 mark on fastbreak points.
