WISE, Va. – The University of Virginia's College at Wise Women's Basketball Team (13-6, 4-4 SAC) scored eight of the final 12 points of the contest to turn away a furious rally by visiting Emory & Henry College (6-10, 3-5 SAC) for a 59-54 win Wednesday evening in South Atlantic Conference play.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled back and forth through a low-scoring opening period, 12-11 in favor of the Cavaliers. E&H had the largest lead of the quarter at three points (11-8) when senior guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) hit a three-pointer with 2:15 on the clock.
- In the second, the Wasps opened on a 12-5 run to take a 22-17 advantage with 2:38 to go before the break. Wise closed with five of the final seven points to make it a 24-22 Emory & Henry lead at the intermission.
- The opening eight minutes of the third saw the teams go shot for shot with E&H holding a 34-31 advantage. Wise erased the deficit with the final five points to carry a 36-34 margin into the final 10 minutes of play.
- The Cavaliers started the fourth on a 10-2 run, pushing their lead to 10 at 46-36. Emory & Henry clawed its way back to within one point, 51-50, thanks to a 14-5 run which covered 5:14 but UVA Wise bounced back to finish on an 8-4 run for the final 59-54 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) posted a team-best 21 points, adding seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) scored 11 points and pulled down seven boards off the bench.
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for eight points, seven rebounds, four blocks, three assists and two steals as redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) notched five points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.
UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Nia Vanzant went for 21 points, seven steals and five rebounds to pace the Cavaliers. Caitlyn Ross tacked on 12 points, eight rebounds five assists and two steals.
- Katlin Burger went for 11 points, six rebounds and two assists with Leah Kestner tacking on seven points and seven boards.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went 22-for-64 (34.4%) from the field with five three-pointers on the evening. The Wasps only made eight trips to the free throw line, sinking five attempts (62.5%).
- UVA Wise made just 26.8 percent (19-of-71) of its shots and just a pair of threes. The Cavaliers did the majority of their damage at the charity stripe, going 19-for-23 (82.6%).
- E&H held a 52-47 rebounding advantage, but 17 offensive boards for Wise translated into a 17-5 lead on second-chance points.
- The Cavaliers also held a 34-22 lead on points in the paint and a 24-13 margin on points off turnovers.
