Wingate Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 73-58, For League Win Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Wingate University Women's Basketball Team (12-6, 5-4 SAC) outscored Emory & Henry College (6-11, 3-6 SAC) by a 21-8 margin in the fourth period on its way to a 73-58 win in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs opened a 9-3 lead at the 6:20 mark of the opening period. E&H tied things up at 13-all before Wingate carried an 18-15 advantage into the second frame.
- With WU leading 25-20 with 5:17 to go before intermission, the Wasps scored seven straight to lead, 27-25. Four in a row by Wingate made it a 29-27 contest at the break.
- Emory & Henry came out in the third on a 12-3 run covering the first 2:47 of the period to go ahead, 39-32. Wingate retook the lead at 40-39, and the two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with the Bulldogs ahead, 52-50, with 10 minutes to play.
- Wingate scored the first 10 points of the fourth to go up 12 (62-50) and never looked back. The Wasps would get within seven but the Bulldogs extended their margin to 71-55, cruising to the 73-58 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 15 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals while senior guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) added 13 points and two boards off the bench.
- Senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) notched 11 points and five assists as senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) put up five assists and four rebounds.
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) finished with eight points, five rebounds, two steals and a block.

Wingate Individual Leaders
- Bryanna Troutman posted a double-double with game-highs of 21 points and 15 rebounds, adding four assists.
- Emily Hege tallied 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals while Jaia Wilson tacked on 10 points, five boards and two steals off the bench.
- Hannah Clark contributed nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 38.8 percent (19-for-49) for the game, scorching the nets with 10 three-point baskets. The Wasps went 10-for-12 (83.3%) at the free throw line.
- Wingate was 25-for-60 (41.7%) for the game with eight triples. The Bulldogs converted 88.2 percent (15-of-17) of their trips to the charity stripe.
- WU held a 39-27 rebounding advantage and used 15 offensive boards to lead, 12-7, on second-chance points and posted a 30-16 margin on points in the paint.
- The Bulldogs also outscored the Wasps, 27-9, on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 17 E&H errors.
