Anderson Women’s Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry, 53-46, Saturday In SAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Anderson (S.C.) University Women's Basketball Team (13-9, 7-5 SAC) picked up a 53-46 win over Emory & Henry College (7-14, 4-9 SAC) Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action. The Trojans led the contest from wire to wire.

How It Happened
- Anderson stormed out to a 12-0 lead in the first four minutes of the game. E&H bounced back to make it a 20-10 contest at the end of the first period.
- In the second, the Trojans started on a 6-2 run to push their lead to 14 (26-12), but eight in a row by the Wasps closed the gap to 26-20. After both teams suffered a scoring drought, Anderson scored the final six of the half to take a 32-20 lead into the locker room.
- Returning to action, the squads went back and forth with Emory & Henry scoring six of the period's final 10 to get within nine at 42-33.
- Anderson went back ahead by 12 early in the fourth but an 8-2 run by E&H got the score to 49-43 with 3:09 to play. The Trojans outscored the Wasps 4-3 down the stretch for the final 53-46 margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) led the Wasps with 11 points off the bench while senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) posted seven points, four rebounds and four assists.
- Sophomore center Chelsi Hodges (Boone, N.C.) had seven points with sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) putting up six points, 12 rebounds and three steals.

Anderson (S.C.) Individual Leaders
- Diamond McDowell led all players with 18 points and 15 rebounds, tacking on four steals and two blocks.
- Jalyn Spurlin notched 14 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists with Britney Bailey contributing four points and 12 boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 35.2 percent (19-of-54) for the game with five three-pointers. The Wasps went to the free throw line just five times all afternoon, converting three attempts (60%).
- Anderson made just 20-of-66 (30.3%) of its field goal attempts including two triples. The Trojans hit 57.9 percent (11-of-19) of their free throw attempts.
- AU dominated the glass, leading E&H by a 52-35 margin on rebounds. The Trojans pulled down 23 offensive boards which they translated to a 15-4 lead on second-chance points.
 - Anderson also led 40-22 on points in the paint.
