UVA Wise Women’s Basketball Tops Emory & Henry, 78-67, Wednesday In Southwest Virginia Rivalry

EMORY, Va. – The University of Virginia's College at Wise Women's Basketball Team (14-13, 5-11 SAC) saw five players reach double figures in scoring on Wednesday evening as it defeated Emory & Henry College (7-16, 4-11 SAC) by a 78-67 margin.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled out to a 12-11 E&H lead at the 4:39 mark of the opening period. The Wasps closed the period on a 10-6 run which included a pair of three-pointers by sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) for a 22-17 advantage.
- After the Wasps pushed the margin to eight early in the second frame, the Cavaliers went on a 15-3 run spanning 4:15 to go up by a 32-28 margin. Another 11 in a row later in the quarter was key for Wise as it made the halftime score 46-32.
- The squads went bucket for bucket in the third with the Cavaliers only able to extend their lead by one out to 62-47 with 10 minutes remaining. The early portion of the fourth saw UVA Wise go on an 11-5 scoring spurt for the largest lead of the evening at 21 (73-52). E&H battled back in the final minutes, finishing on a 15-5 run, but the deficit was too much to overcome and the visitors took the 78-67 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) lead the Wasps with 16 points, adding five rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks while Glance had 12 points, eight boards, two blocks and two assists.
- Sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for 12 points, six rebounds and two steals as sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had 11 points and three rebounds.
- Senior guard Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) finished with two points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals while senior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) notched nine points and four boards.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Josie Hester put up a team-best 15 points and seven rebounds to go along with two steals while Nia Vanzant tallied 15 points and four rebounds.
- Katlin Burger posted 12 points, four rebounds and two assists with Kaitlin Bailey adding 11 points, eight boards, three steals and two blocks.
- Anna Whited chipped in 10 points as well for the Cavaliers.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 35.9 percent (23-of-64) for the game with 10 three-pointers. The Wasps made 11-of-16 (68.8%) of their free throws.
- UVA Wise hit 29-of-61 (47-5%) of their attempts from the floor, making eight triples. The Cavaliers were 12-for-20 (60%) at the stripe.
- Wise held a 42-37 rebounding advantage but E&H took advantage of 11 offensive boards to lead, 12-7, on second-chance points.
- The Cavaliers posted a 32-20 margin on points in the paint and a 19-13 lead on points off turnovers, as both teams made 18 errors in the contest.
