EMORY, Va. – The No. 21 Catawba College Women's Basketball Team (22-4, 14-2 SAC) built a 24-point halftime advantage and held off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Emory & Henry College (7-17, 4-12 SAC) on its way to an 82-69 South Atlantic Conference win Saturday.
The contest also served as Senior Day for the Wasps who honored Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.), Amaya Lee (Bristol, Va.) and Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) prior to the start of the game.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled back and forth through the opening five minutes of the game with Catawba edging ahead, 14-13. The Indians made it 20-15 less than a minute later, but the Wasps answered to tie the contest at 20 points apiece. Catawba scored the final seven points of the frame for a 27-20 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- In the second, the Lady Indians continued their run scoring 21 of the first 23 points of the period to make it a 48-22 contest with 3:09 to go before the intermission. Catawba cruised into the locker room up, 51-27.
- The Lady Indians opened the third on a 7-2 run for their largest lead of the game at 58-29 with 7:29 on the clock. E&H closed the frame on a 5-2 run to make it a 66-41 contest with one quarter to play.
- An 11-3 run in the fourth saw the Wasps cut the margin to 74-54 with 3:52 to go. The Wasps scored the final 10 points of the contest for the final 82-69 margin.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Redshirt freshman forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) posted 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks to lead the Wasps while Jones notched 15 points and three boards.
- Sophomore guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had 11 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals off the bench as sophomore forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for eight points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals.
- Sophomore forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) tacked on seven points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Catawba Individual Leaders
- Lyrik Thorne scored a game-high 18 points with two rebounds and two steals while Mary Spry had 10 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
- Janiya Downs chipped in 10 points and five rebounds as Abi Svenson and Sara McIntosh had nine and seven points, respectively.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 26-of-69 (37.7%) of its shots with seven three-pointers on the afternoon. The Wasps converted 76.9 percent (10-of-13) of its free throw attempts.
- Catawba shot 48.4 percent (31-of-64) for the game with eight triples. The Lady Indians went 12-for-15 (80%) from the stripe.
- E&H held a 40-39 rebounding advantage but led Catawba 13-8 on the offensive glass on its way to a 11-9 margin on second-chance points.
- The Lady Indians posted a 44-26 mark lead on points in the paint and a 23-18 tally on points off turnovers.
