BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey College Women's Basketball Team (2-0) earned a 76-61 win over Emory & Henry College (1-1) Saturday afternoon in the final game of the Crusaders' South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled back and forth through the opening five minutes of the game with E&H holding a 9-8 advantage. Eight of the next 11 went the way of the Crusaders as they held a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- In the second, Emory & Henry opened on a 9-3 run to go ahead, 21-19. Later in the frame with the score knotted at 24, BAC closed on a 10-2 run to take a 34-26 margin into the locker room.
- The squads traded baskets as they returned to action in the third quarter. Trailing by 10 (47-37) with 6:13 to go, E&H closed on a 12-7 run to get within five at 54-49 with one period left to play.
- Belmont Abbey ran its advantage to 13 at 64-51 with a 10-2 run to open the fourth. The Wasps closed the gap to 66-57 with 5:45 to go, but the Crusaders scored six in a row as part of a 10-4 run to end the game for the 76-61 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 14 points on 7-for-11 shooting and tacked on five rebounds and five assists while junior forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) posted 11 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists off the bench.
- Freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had 11 points and three boards with junior center Chelsi Hodges (Boone, N.C.) contributing seven points.
Belmont Abbey Individual Leaders
- Abigail Cain notched a game-high 19 points, going 9-for-10 at the free throw line, and added three rebounds as Peyton Nation had 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals.
- Janiah Shular scored 14 points and posted five assists and four rebounds off the bench as Catherine Hendershot went for nine points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 47.1 percent (24-for-51) from the field, hitting six three-pointers on 42.9 percent shooting. The Wasps went 7-for-12 (58.3%) at the free throw line.
- Belmont Abbey was 25-for-57 (43.9%) shooting for the game with eight triples. The Crusaders were nearly perfect at the stripe, going 18-for-20 (90%).
- BAC held a 33-30 rebounding advantage and used 16 offensive rebounds to post a 20-8 lead on second-chance points.
- The two squads were equal, 24-24, on points in the paint but the Crusaders' 21-11 lead on points off turnovers proved to be an important difference in the final score.
