EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (4-1) needed an extra five minutes, but dealt Virginia Union University (4-1) its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Wasps claimed the victory by a 75-68 margin after the contest was tied 37-all at the intermission and 64-64 at the conclusion of regulation.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled back and forth during the opening 10 minutes of the game with the largest lead coming at 18-14 in favor of E&H as junior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) hit a jump shot with 33 seconds on the clock. A basket by VUU at the buzzer made the score 18-16.
- The second period saw the squads continue to go shot for shot. Trailing by four, the Panthers scored six in a row but E&H went on a 9-3 run to retake the lead, 31-27 with 4:08 to go before the break. Another six-point streak by Virginia Union gave it a 33-31 advantage, but Emory & Henry responded to knot the contest, 37-37, at the half.
- Returning to action, the Wasps scored 10 of the first 12 of the third quarter to gain their largest lead of the game, 49-39, with 3:52 on the clock. VUU clawed its way back, finishing on an 11-6 run to make it a 55-50 contest with one quarter left in regulation.
- The first 4:18 saw the Panthers on a 12-1 run for its largest advantage of the contest, 62-56, but nine of the next 11 by the Wasps knotted the contest at 62-all three minutes later. The final 2:42 saw the squads battle but the horn would sound with the score tied, 64-64, with overtime to ensue.
- In the extra frame, E&H scored early to take a 66-64 advantage but VUU answered quickly to tie the contest again. The Wasps closed the game on a 7-2 run to grind out the 75-68 win.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 20 points, seven rebounds, and two steals while freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) tallied her first double-double with 18 points, 15 boards and four steals.
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had 17 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) added 10 points.
Virginia Union Individual Leaders
- Nevaeh Reaves paced the Panthers with 20 points, three rebounds and three steals while Ny Langley tacked on 15 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.
- Taniah Johnson went for 11 points and two boards off the bench as Brittini Martin added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals as a reserve.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 29-for-66 (43.9%) for the game and was an efficient 77.8 percent (14-for-18) at the free throw line.
- Virginia Union made just 37 percent (27-for-73) of its shot and were 11-for-14 (78.6%) at the stripe.
- E&H held a slim, 44-42 rebounding advantage but VUU used 17 offensive boards to lead 15-9 on second-chance points.
- The Wasps outscored the Panthers 19-13 on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 15 of Virginia Union's miscues.
