Charleston Women’s Basketball Upends Emory & Henry, 86-63, Monday Evening

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston (W.Va.) Women's Basketball Team (2-4) led wire to wire as it snapped  Emory & Henry College's (4-2) three-game winning streak with an 86-63 victory Monday.

How It Happened
- The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 10-3 lead at the 6:36 mark of the opening period and slowly extended their advantage to 20-10 after 10 minutes of play.
- Charleston opened the second on an 11-4 run to push the margin to 31-14 with 7:30 on the clock. The Wasps put together an 11-2 to close the gap to 33-25 four and a half minutes later as the Eagles went into the intermission up, 43-29, after a 10-4 run to close the frame.
- The third quarter saw Emory & Henry trim the lead to 10 (58-48), keeping themselves in the contest with one stanza to go. Leading 64-53 with 7:01 to play, UC put together a 15-7 run to give itself an 18-point lead at 78-60 with three minutes remaining. The Eagles continued to press, taking the contest by an 86-63 scoreline.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led the Wasps with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals while junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) put up 15 points, three boards, two assists, and two steals.
- Freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) contributed 12 points and five rebounds while freshman guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) posted nine points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Charleston Individual Leaders
- Nia Vanzant posted a game-high 23 points with four rebounds, four assists and three steals as Clarrissa Francis added 18 points, five rebounds and three steals.
- Paris Stokes and 13 points off the bench with Ksenija Mitric tacking on 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 37.7 percent (20-of-53) of its shots including six from long range. The Wasps were 17-for-22 (77.3%) at the free throw line.
- Charleston shot 31-for-66 (47%) from the floor, connecting on 12 attempts from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles made 75 percent (12-of-16) at the charity stripe.
- UC forced 23 E&H turnovers, scoring 31 points on their ensuing possessions.
- The Golden Eagles also held a 36-22 advantage on points in the paint.

- Emory & Henry will open South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday when it hosts Coker University in a doubleheader with the men's team. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., as the second contest of the twin-billing.
