Mars Hill Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Emory & Henry, 84-51, Wednesday In SAC Action

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill University Women's Basketball Team (4-4, 1-0 SAC) saw five players reach double figures in scoring on its way to an 84-51 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (4-4, 0-2 SAC) Wednesday evening in a South Atlantic Conference matchup.

How It Happened
- MHU opened up an 8-2 lead at the 6:23 mark of the opening period but an 8-1 run by Emory & Henry gave it a 10-9 advantage with 4:09 on the clock. The Lions closed the quarter on a 15-2 run to go up by a 24-12 margin.
- The squads traded buckets for the majority of the second frame, but Mars Hill scored six of the final seven points to go into the break up 39-22.
- Returning to action, E&H scored 10 of the first 16 points to get within 13 at 45-32 with 6:13 on the clock. A 12-3 run by the Lions pushed the margin to 22 (57-35) late in the stanza as they also scored the final seven to lead, 64-39, with 10 minutes left to play.
- A 17-2 run to start the fourth extended Mars Hill's lead to 82-41 as they cruised to the 84-51 victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had a team-high eight points to go along with six rebounds while junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) added seven points, four rebounds and a block
- Freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had seven points and three boards with junior center Chelsi Hodges (Boone, N.C.) contributing seven points and two rebounds off the bench.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Elyseia Brown led all players with 17 points, adding four steals, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks as Maddie Gillie had 15 points, seven rebounds four steals and two assists.
- Jo Snow posted 15 points, three assists and two rebounds while Halei Gillis went for 12 points and six boards.
- Janette Hanni had 10 points and three steals off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 32 percent (16-of-50) of its shots, connecting on five attempts from long range. The Wasps shot 14-of-18 (77.8%) at the free throw line.
- Mars Hill went 30-for-64 (46.9%) for the game with eight triples. The Lions converted 64 percent (16-of-25) of their chances from the stripe.
- MHU held a 49-27 rebounding advantage and used a 16-4 lead on the offensive glass to outscore E&H, 18-6 on second-chance points.
- The Lions forced 21 Wasp turnovers and posted a 31-10 margin on their ensuing possessions.
- Mars Hill also outscored Emory & Henry 44-12 on points in the paint.
