Concord Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 91-72, Friday In Non-Conference Matinee

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University Women's Basketball Team (5-5) built a 48-35 lead at the half on its way to a 91-72 victory over visiting Emory & Henry College (5-6) Friday in a non-conference matchup of Central Appalachian programs.

How It Happened
- The Mountain Lions got out to a 14-4 lead midway through the opening period. E&H closed the gap to 19-13 before CU scored the final point to lead, 21-13 through 10 minutes of action.
- Concord pressed its advantage to 16 (33-17) early in the second. The two teams traded baskets through the middle of the frame but Emory & Henry closed on a 17-9 run to trim the deficit to seven (48-41) at the break.
- Returning to action, the Wasps scored 10 of the first 12 points of the third quarter to take a 51-50 lead. Concord responded with a 15-2 run to go ahead, 66-55, with 3:33 on the clock. The squads went shot for shot for the remainder of the frame with the Mountain Lions leading by 10 (73-63) with one period to play.
- CU started the fourth on an 11-2 run to go ahead 84-65 with 3:38 remaining and cruised to the 91-72 victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) scored a team-high 17 points off the bench, going 7-for-11 from the field. She added four rebounds, four blocks and two steals.
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists while freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.
- Freshman guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) contributed nine points and five assists off the bench while junior forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) had six points and eight rebounds.

Concord Individual Leaders
- Ana Young led all players with 24 points, tacking on five rebounds and two assists while Jaisah Smith went for 14 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assists.
- Deja Atkinson posted 13 points, six rebounds, four steals and two assists as Nakaila Gray and Abbie Smith contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.   

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 28-of-64 (43.8%) of its field goals but were just 4-for-16 (25%) from long range. The Wasps shot 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line.
- Concord shot 43 percent (37-for-86) from the floor with eight triples. The Mountain Lions went 9-for-14 (64.3%) at the charity stripe.
- CU held a 48-42 rebounding advantage and used 22 offensive boards to lead, 22-15, on second-chance points.
- The Mountain Lions forced the Wasps into 31 turnovers, and posted a 36-15 margin on their ensuing possessions.
