Breanna Yarber Named SAC WePlayed Sports Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Emory & Henry College sophomore forward Breanna Yarber has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Women's Basketball Player of the Week, SAC officials announced Monday. It is the second time in her career that Yarber has won weekly honors from the league.

The Meadowview, Virginia native averaged 30.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 assists per game last week, leading E&H to a 1-1 week. She shot 53.5 percent (23-for-43) from the field and made 14-of-16 (87.5%) of her free throw attempts.

In Wednesday afternoon's 93-82 win against Tusculum University, Yarber broke the E&H record for points in a game, putting up 38 markers with 17 made field goals which was also a school record. She Was a perfect 4-for-4 from the line and notched seven steals, five rebounds and three assists.

Saturday, she piloted the Wasps to a near upset of No. 4 Catawba College, coming up just short, 77-73. Again, Yarber led Emory & Henry in scoring with 22 points, as she went 10-for-12 at the stripe, and completed the double-double with 11 rebounds, four blocks and two assists.

Yarber's 38 points broke a nearly 23-year record held by Kelly Smith, who scored 38 points at Bridgewater on February 3, 2001. Her 17 field goals topped a three-way tie of 14, most recently accomplished by Tracye Steele against Virginia Wesleyan on January 31, 1998.

Emory & Henry will be on the road for its next three games, visiting Carson-Newman University (Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.). The Wasps' next home game, also against C-N, will be on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m.
