Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Rolls Past Emory & Henry Wednesday In SAC Action

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (10-4, 4-2 SAC) opened up a 57-23 halftime lead and never looked back as it defeated Emory & Henry College (7-8, 2-5 SAC) by an 88-48 score in a South Atlantic Conference matchup Wednesday evening.

How It Happened
- C-N jumped out to an 11-0 lead at the 7:39 mark of the opening period. The Lady Eagles pushed their advantage to 17 (25-8) with 3:13 on the clock as they led 29-13 after one. Carson-Newman picked up where it left off in the second quarter with a 15-2 scoring run to extend the margin to 44-15 with 6:35 to go before the intermission. The Lady Eagles stretched the gap to as much as 36 (57-21) in the final minute, going into the break up 57-23.
- Returning to action, C-N scored eight of the first 12 to push its margin to 65-27. Emory & Henry turned on its offense with a 14-2 run to close the deficit to 67-41. The Eagles held a 72-43 lead with one quarter to play. The fourth period saw Carson-Newman outscore the Wasps, 16-5, cruising to the 88-48 victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) tallied 24 points, four rebounds and three steals while sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had 13 points, four boards and two blocks.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Lindsey Taylor led the Lady Eagles with 24 points and nine boards as Braelyn Wykle went for 21 points, seven rebounds and two assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 18-for-55 (32.7%) from the field with just two three-pointers. The Wasps shot 71.4 percent (10-for-14) at the free throw line.
- Carson-Newman hit 47.4 percent (36-of-76) of its shots with nine makes from long range. The Lady Eagles went 7-for-12 (58.3%) from the stripe.
- C-N held a 44-33 rebounding advantage, using 16 offensive rebounds to post 13 second-chance points.
- The Lady Eagles scored 36 points off 30 Wasp turnovers, and outscored Emory & Henry by a 46-10 margin on fastbreak points.
