Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Beats Tusculum, 89-75, Thursday To Complete Season Sweep

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (8-8, 3-5 SAC) equaled its win total from a year ago and evened its record at 8-8 on the year with an 89-75 victory over Tusculum University (3-11, 1-7 SAC) Thursday afternoon. The Wasps completed the season sweep against the Pioneers in a contest that was postponed from Wednesday due to the recent winter weather in Central Appalachia.

How It Happened
- The squads traded baskets to a 7-7 tie at the 6:22 mark of the opening period. The Wasps then went on a 10-2 run to open up a 17-9 advantage as they led, 17-11, at the end of one.
- Emory & Henry got the second quarter started with a 13-2 run that covered the opening 3:36 to make it a 30-13 contest. The Pioneers slowly carved into the lead, getting within 10 (37-27) at the break thanks to a 14-7 scoring spurt.
- The opening minute and a half of the third frame saw Tusculum score eight in a row to cut the deficit to two but a 20-7 run by E&H pushed the margin out to 15 at 57-42 with 2:23 on the clock. The Wasps held a 60-47 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
- The opening 2:39 of the fourth saw Emory & Henry extend its advantage to 20 for the first time at 70-50. The Pioneers used a 23-13 run to close the gap to 10 with less than a minute to go but the Wasps scored six of the final eight to win by 14 (89-75).

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) notched her second 30-point game against TU in as many tries, going for 33 on 15-for-24 shooting. She added nine rebounds, four steals, three blocks and two assists.
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had 13 points, eight assists and four boards while junior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) posted 12 points, six assists and two steals.
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) contributed 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Ni'Kiah Chesterfield posted a team-high 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting with eight rebounds while Monique Shim had 18 points, six boards, and three steals.
- Faith Silva went for 12 points and six assists with Jenna Kallenburg chipping in 11 points, two rebounds and two steals off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 33-of-69 (48%) for the game, making nine three-point baskets. The Wasps posted a white-hot performance of 93 percent (14-of-15) at the free throw line.
- Tusculum made 39 percent (27-of-70) of its shots, connecting 10 times from long range. The Pioneers went 11-for-13 (85%) at the stripe.
- TU held a 45-36 rebounding advantage and used 18 offensive boards to hold a 13-4 margin on second-chance points.
- The Wasps led, 38-28, on points in the paint and took advantage of 20 Pioneer miscues to notch a 26-10 margin on points off turnovers.
- E&H assisted on 28 of its 33 made baskets, an assist rate of 85 percent.
