Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Handles Emory & Henry, 74-63, Wednesday In SAC Showdown

EMORY, Va. – The Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (13-5, 7-3 SAC) broke open a 27-all game at halftime with a 38-point third period on its way to a 74-63 win against Emory & Henry College (8-10, 3-7 SAC) Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference play.

How It Happened
- C-N jumped out to a 5-0 lead at the 8:20 mark of the opening period but Emory & Henry scored 12 in a row to take a 12-5 lead less than four minutes later. The two squads traded baskets for the remainder of the frame with the Wasps leading 19-12 through one quarter of play.
- The Lady Eagles scored the first eight points of the second period to go ahead, 20-19, but the Wasps answered with six in a row to retake the lead, 25-20, with 2:54 on the clock. Carson-Newman finished the half on a 7-2 run to take the contest into the locker room tied, 27-27.
- Emory & Henry scored the opening basket of the third period to regain the lead but the Lady Eagles responded with a 35-9 scoring run which covered 7:48 to go up by 24 points (62-38). E&H showed it wasn't going to give up, closing the quarter with eight of the final 13 to make it a 65-46 contest with 10 minutes to go.
- Carson-Newman pushed the margin back to 24 midway through the fourth at 72-48 but Emory & Henry closed the game with 15 of the last 17 points to make the final score 74-63.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Freshman Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) had 10 points, six rebounds and two steals off the bench to lead the Wasps while junior center Chelsi Hodges (Boone, N.C.) went for 10 points and two rebounds.
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) notched nine points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two assists with freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) posting nine points and eight rebounds.
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) added nine points, two rebounds and two assists with junior forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) chipping in seven points, 15 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Lindsey Taylor scored a game-high 22 points, going 8-for-10 from the field with six rebounds as Skylar Boshears tallied nine points, three steals and two assists.
- Makayla Alvey had eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals while Braelyn Wykle and Emily Gonzalez registered eight points each.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 16-for-50 (32%) for the game with five three-pointers. The Wasps continued to be strong at the free throw line, shooting 86.7 percent (26-for-30).
- Carson-Newman made 35 percent (28-of-80) of its field goal attempts, hitting seven shots from long range. The Lady Eagles were 11-for-16 (68.8%) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 52-37 rebounding advantage but only managed an 8-7 lead on second chance points with 12 offensive boards.
- C-N boasted a 40-22 margin on points in the paint and a 38-13 lead on points off turnovers.
