Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Defeats Newberry, 84-76, Saturday In SAC Contest

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (9-10, 4-7 SAC) shot a season-best 50.9 percent from the field as it picked up an 84-76 win over Newberry College (6-13, 4-7 SAC) in a South Atlantic Conference contest. The Wasps saw four players reach double figures in scoring on their way to the victory.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled to a 10-9 E&H lead at the 4:35 mark of the opening quarter but Newberry scored six of the final eight points to hold a 15-12 advantage after 10 minutes. In the second, the Wolves pressed the margin to six at 18-12 with 9:36 on the clock but the Wasps put together a 25-10 run with 13 points coming from freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) for a 37-28 lead at the intermission.
- The Wasps and Wolves went back and forth early in the third with Emory & Henry holding a 45-35 lead with 5:59 remaining. Newberry closed the gap to five with a 9-4 run late in the period as E&H held a 55-49 advantage with one quarter to go.
- The Wolves got within four with the first bucket of the final quarter (55-51) but an 11-2 run by the Wasps extended their margin to 66-53 with 5:57 left to play. After five in a row by Newberry, E&H posted an 8-1 run for a 15-point lead, putting the contest out of reach. The visitors would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way as Emory & Henry came away with the 84-76 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Hall posted a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had a team-high 20 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) tallied 18 points, four rebounds and four assists with freshman guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) tacking on 11 points, two assists, two steals and two steals.

Newberry Individual Leaders
- April Rummery-Lamb led all scorers with 29 points and five rebounds, going 12-for-18 from the field. Deshona Gaither went for 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Ella Pearson had nine points and seven rebounds off the bench as Chloe Andrew added nine points and two boards.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 50.9 percent (27-of-53) of its shots, hitting 10 three-pointers, six of which came in the second quarter. The Wasps were 20-for-27 (74.1%) at the free throw line.
- Newberry shot 28-for-67 (41.8%) for the game with 10 triples. The Wolves hit 75 percent (10-of-15) of their attempts from the stripe.
- E&H held a 39-33 rebounding advantage but 11 offensive boards for Newberry translated into a 15-5 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wolves held a 34-32 lead on points in the paint while the Wasps scored 14 points off 15 Newberry turnovers.
