Coker Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Emory & Henry, 79-60, Saturday In SAC Action

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker University Women's Basketball Team (13-8, 7-7 SAC) posted a 41-28 second-half scoring advantage over Emory & Henry College (9-14, 4-11 SAC) on its way to a 79-60 win in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Coker got out to a 6-2 lead at the 7:52 mark of the opening period but E&H went on a 5-2 run to close the gap to 8-7 just over a minute later. Leading by one with less than two minutes to go, Coker got an old-fashioned three-point play to hold a 22-18 advantage through one quarter.
- The Wasps kept the pressure on, starting the second on a 12-5 run to go up 30-27 with 4:11 on the clock. CU responded with an 11-2 run to close the quarter for a 38-32 margin at the intermission.
- Returning to action, Coker extended its lead to double digits at the 8:35 mark of the third quarter at 42-32. Back-to-back buckets by the Wasps trimmed the deficit to six but a 6-2 run down the stretch gave the Cobras a 13-point advantage (58-45) with 10 minutes left to play.
- The two squads traded baskets for the first five minutes of the fourth but nine in a row by Coker pushed the margin out to 75-55 with 3:39 to go. Both teams cooled off in the waning minutes as the Cobras cruised to the 79-60 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 22 points, five rebounds and four assists while freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) posted 12 points and six boards.
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) went for six points, seven rebounds and two assists as junior forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) tacked on six points, three rebounds and two steals.
- Junior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) contributed five points, three rebounds and three assists as freshman guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) went for five points off the bench.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Kamari Thompson put up a double-double with 22 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks, going 11-for-17 from the field.
- Mya Wasswa tallied 17 points and six boards while Dasia Ferguson went for 19 points, two rebounds and two steals off the bench.
-Mariah Mitchem posted eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.  

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 39.0 percent (23-for-59 for the game with five makes from beyond the arc. The Wasps hit 9-of-11 (81.8%) of their free throw attempts.
- Coker went 30-for-70 (42.9%) from the field, also connecting on five triples. The Cobras made 77.8 percent (14-of-18) of their chances from the stripe.
- CU held a 42-37 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 46-32 margin on points in the paint.
- The Wasps committed 26 turnovers on the afternoon, resulting in 20 points for the Cobras.
