Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Gets Buzzer-Beater Victory, 70-69, Over Limestone Saturday

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (10-14, 5-11 SAC) saw junior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to grab a thrilling 70-69 win at Limestone University (9-15, 3-13 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The victory stopped a four-game losing skid, and gave the Wasps their 10th win of the year.

How It Happened
- The two squads battled to an 8-8 tie at the 6:58 mark of the opening period before the Saints went on a 10-3 run for an 18-11 lead with 4:37 on the clock. The Wasps closed the gap down to three points at 26-23 but a triple by Limestone to end the quarter gave them a six-point advantage through one. The teams went back and forth early in the second but the Saints closed on a 6-1 run for a 42-31 halftime lead.
- Returning to action in the third, Emory & Henry went a 17-6 run to tie the contest at 48 points with 1:05 remaining but Limestone hit a pair of free throws for a two-point margin 50-48 with 10 minutes to play.
- In the fourth, the Saints went up six early, but seven straight for the Wasps gave them a 55-54 lead with 7:23 on the clock. Limestone went back ahead, eventually leading by as much as six (65-59) with less than three minutes to go. E&H used an 8-2 run to tie things up, 67-all, with 32 seconds remaining. With the contest still tied, Limestone's Kalisha Hill drew a foul with eight seconds to play and hit both free throws for a 69-67 advantage. Traynham's heroics were up next as the Wasps ran a final play for the three-point bucket and the thrilling 70-69 victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led the Wasps with 16 points and four rebounds, making her return to the lineup after missing six games with an injury.
- Traynham had 11 points, none more important than her buzzer-beating triple, while freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) went for 10 points, and six rebounds.
- Junior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) tacked on 10 points and four boards while junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had nine points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Limestone Individual Leaders
- Kalisha Hill posted a game-high 19 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks while Amara Newsom had 14 points, seven boards and two steals off the bench.
- Reagan Kargo added 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 21-of-54 (38.9%) of its shots, converting six attempts from long range. The Wasps made 75.9 percent (22-of-29) of their free throw chances.
- Limestone shot 46.3 percent (25-for-54) for the game, also with six triples. The Saints scored 13 points 13-for-21; 61.9%) at the charity stripe.
- LU held a 43-30 rebounding advantage and dominated the scoring down low, 36-28,
- E&H posted slim leads of 22-20 on points off turnovers and 12-11 on second-chance points.
