Emory & Henry Women's Basketball Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne, 76-59, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (3-3, 0-2 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference action to Lenoir-Rhyne University (2-3, 1-2 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The Bears earned the win by a scoreline of 76-59.

How It Happened
- The Bears forced three early E&H turnovers that they converted into six points on their way to a 9-0 lead. The Wasps settled in and a made three-point jumper from sophomore guard Lyndie Ramsey (Elizabethton, Tenn.) trimmed the deficit to three at 12-9. The teams traded buckets throughout the remainder of the opening quarter and the Bears took a 22-16 advantage into the second stanza.
- The Wasps rallied to begin the second quarter as a bucket by senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) tied things up at 23-23. A quick 7-0 run from the visitors gave them some breathing room and they managed to increase their margin out to double digits at 35-25 with 2:19 to play in the half. Once more E&H responded to reduce the deficit to 39-33 at the break.
- Two quick buckets out of the halftime break from Ramsey and Santoro made it a one-point game at 39-38, but another 10-0 run from the Bears pushed their lead out to its largest of the game at 49-38. LR managed to keep the Wasps at arm's length and took a 61-49 lead into the final stanza.
- It was more of the same in the final period as the Bears added to their lead and ballooned the margin out to as many as 21 on their way to the 76-59 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Ramsey paced the Wasps as she had a team-high 17 points, six rebounds, one block and a steal. Santoro stuffed the stat sheet as she added 16 points, eight boards, six assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) finished with eight points, two rebounds, one steal and an assist off of the bench.
- Senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) recorded five points, four assists and two rebounds while senior center Chelsi Hodges (Boone, N.C.) posted five points, two rebounds and an assist. 

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Vanessa Lurewicz led all scorers with 25 points, three rebounds, one assist, one block and a steal. Emily Harman registered 15 points, three boards, three assists and a pair of steals.
- Alexandra Merceron had 11 points, four rebounds and an assist off of the bench for the Bears in the win. 

A Deeper Look
- The Bears shot 44.3% (27-for-61) from the field while the Wasps went 20-for-56 (35.7%). LR knocked down nine shots from distance (37.5%) compared to seven (31.8%) for E&H.
- E&H outrebounded LR by a 40-35 margin, but the Bears held a 28-22 advantage on points in the paint.
- LR forced 21 Wasp turnovers that they converted into 25 points. Emory & Henry only managed to force 12 miscues that they turned into 13 points.
- The Bears were effective in transition as they outscored the Wasps 20-5 on the fastbreak.

- Emory & Henry plays its final game before the Thanksgiving Break on Tuesday, November 26 when the Wasps host the Eagles of Carson-Newman University. Tip is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. as game one of a doubleheader with the men's team.
