No. 5 Carson-Newman Women’s Basketball Uses Strong Third Quarter To Defeat Emory & Henry, 76-57, Tuesday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The No. 5 Carson-Newman University Women's Basketball Team (6-0, 4-0 SAC) broke open a 33-28 contest at halftime with 26 points in the third on its way to a 76-57 win over Emory & Henry University on Tuesday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action.

How It Happened
- The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead early and held a 13-8 margin with 6:44 on the clock. E&H bounced back to outscore C-N by a 7-2 margin the rest of the quarter for a 15-all tie.
- Trailing 18-15 in the first minute of the second, the Wasps went on a 10-3 run covering 2:48 for a 25-21 advantage. Carson-Newman put up a 12-3 run in the final 5:42 of the half to lead, 33-28, going into the locker room.
- Returning to action in the third period, the two squads traded baskets early before the Eagles went on a 16-4 run to press their advantage to 57-38 on the way to a 59-40 lead with 10 minutes to play.
- In the fourth, E&H was unable to get any closer than 15 points as C-N cruised to the 76-57 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 17 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two blocks while senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) had 15 points and four boards.
- Sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) went for nine points, nine rebounds and two steals as sophomore guard Lyndie Ramsey (Elizabethton, Tenn.) notched nine points, three assists and two rebounds.

Carson-Newman Individual Leaders
- Jennifer Sullivan had a game-high 23 points on 8-for-15 shooting with five three-pointers.
- Emily Gonzalez posted 16 points, five assists, five steals, and three rebounds as Campbell Penland notched eight points, four rebounds and three steals.
- Tori Rutherford went for seven points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals with Abigail Johnson tacking on four points and eight rebounds off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 38.6 percent (22-for-57) for the game, making four three-pointers. The Wasps were 9-for-12 (75%) at the stripe.
- Carson-Newman hit 29-of-74 (39.2%) of its field goals, connecting on 11 triples. The Eagles were a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
- E&H held a 42-39 rebounding advantage and used 15 offensive boards to lead, 12-9, on second-chance points.
- C-N forced the Wasps to commit 25 miscues, resulting in a 29-12 lead on points off turnovers and a 21-0 lead on fastbreak points.
