NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College Women's Basketball Team (3-5, 2-2 SAC) outscored Emory & Henry University (3-5, 0-4 SAC) by a 33-25 margin in the second half on the way to a 60-53 South Atlantic Conference win on Saturday afternoon.
Wasp junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had three blocked shots in the contest to become E&H's career leader in the category with 93 rejections.

How It Happened
- The two squads went back and forth through the opening 10 minutes with Newberry building a five-point lead on three different occasions but the Wasps responded to cut the deficit to 18-15 at end of the quarter.
- Emory & Henry started the second on a 10-3 run to go up by a 28-21 margin with 4:46 on the clock, but went cold for the remainder of the period as the Wolves closed the gap to 28-27 at the break with six in a row.
- The Wolves regained the lead, scoring eight of the third period's first 10 points. Down by seven, E&H went on an 11-4 run covering 3:05 to tie the contest at 41-all, but Newberry hit a three-pointer in the final minute of the third to lead, 44-41, going into the final frame.
- In the fourth, Newberry pushed their advantage to 10 (53-43) with 2:48 to play. Emory & Henry got within three with 26 seconds on the clock with a 10-3 run but the Wolves hit four free throws down the stretch to claim the 60-53 win.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Yarber led all players with 19 points, going 9-for-15 from the field, and added six rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
- Senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had 10 points, five rebounds, four blocks, four assists and three steals as sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) notched eight points and three boards.
Newberry Individual Leaders
- Jess Thompkins paced the Wolves with 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists while Hannah Nimmo went for 14 points, six steals, five boards and two assists.
- Caylin Moment finished the game with eight points off the bench while Ryian Howard pulled down 12 rebounds to go along with four points and two assists.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry went 23-for-53 (43.4%) from the field with five three-pointers. The Wasps were a cold 33.3 percent (2-for-6) at the free throw line.
- Newberry shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) for the game with a half-dozen makes from long range. The Wolves converted 10-of-12 (83.3%) of their free throw attempts.
- The Wolves held a 39-29 rebounding advantage, using 16 offensive boards to post a 23-4 lead on second-chance points.
