
SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College Women's Basketball Team (6-3, 4-2 SAC) ran out to a 12-point halftime lead and held on to defeat Emory & Henry University (3-7, 0-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday evening. The Lady Catawba Indians earned the victory by a 79-67 final score.

How It Happened
- The game was evenly-contested through the early part of the first quarter and the home team clung to a 10-7 advantage after the opening five minutes of play. Catawba continued to increase the margin through the second half of the quarter and took a 21-11 lead into the second stanza.
- The Lady Catawba Indians began the second period the same way they ended the first, as they were able to keep the Wasps at arm's length. After falling behind by as many as 14, E&H began to slowly climb back into the contest and trimmed the deficit to just six at 39-33 behind a pair of free throws from senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) with 2:10 to play. Catawba finished the half on a 6-0 run to take the 12-point advantage into the break.
- The Wasps got off on the right foot to start the third quarter as they mounted an 8-2 run over the opening four and a half minutes to pull back within six at 47-41. Catawba finished the quarter with a big 19-1 run of their own to balloon their lead out to its largest of the contest at 66-42.
- E&H outscored Catawba 25-13 over the final quarter of play, but it was too little too late as the home team took the win by the 79-67 final.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) led the way for the Wasps as she posted a double-double of 12 points, 14 rebounds and a steal. Spainhour finished with 15 points, five steals, three steals and three boards.
- Sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) added 13 points, four rebounds and an assist while freshman guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) recorded eight points and a steal.
Catawba Individual Leaders
- Bailee Goodlett paced Catawba with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and a steal while Nala Baker added 13 points, two seals and a board.
- Abi Svenson had 11 points, one rebound and a steal off of the bench. Janiya Foskey contributed eight points, eight rebounds and a steal in the win.
A Deeper Look
- The Lady Catawba Indians shot 31-for-71 (43.7%) from the field compared to 22-for-62 (35.5%) for the Wasps. Catawba knocked down 11 shots (32.4%) from behind the three-point arc while E&H converted just seven (25.0%) of their attempts from distance.
- Catawba outrebounded Emory & Henry by a narrow 41-38 margin and held a 34-28 advantage on points scored in the painted area.
- The Wasps took advantage of their chances at the free throw line, making 16 of their 19 attempts (84.2%). Catawba went 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the charity stripe.
- Both teams were successful forcing turnovers as E&H committed 26 miscues while the home team turned the ball over 24 times. The Wasps scored 26 points off of those mistakes compared to 22 for Catawba.
