Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Tops Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 80-70, In Puerto Rico Clasico Monday Morning

GUAYNABO, PUERTO RICO – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (4-7) snapped a six-game skid on Monday morning as it defeated the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon (0-4) by an 80-70 score in the Puerto Rico Clasico.

How It Happened
- The two teams traded baskets through the entire opening quarter for a 22-all tie.
- In the second, the Vaqueros took a seven-point lead, 34-27, with 5:57 on the clock before E&H scored 14 in a row to lead, 41-34. Bayamon notched the final six of the period to close the gap to 41-40 at the intermission.
- The squads went back-and-forth early in the third. Leading by one, the Wasps put together a 19-7 run covering the final 5:53 of the quarter to go into the final 10 minutes of action up by a 68-55 margin.
- The fourth period saw Emory & Henry maintain its lead, not allowing Bayamon to get any closer than 10 points as they claimed the 80-70 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) scored a game-high 18 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists while junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had 15 points, five boards and five assists.
- Senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) went for nine points, five rebounds, four steals and two assists as freshman guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) had nine points and two steals off the bench.
- Sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) added eight points, six rebounds and five assists while freshman Talia St. Hilaire (Kissimmee, Fla.) notched eight points.

Puerto Rico-Bayamon Individual Leaders
- Illiadian Vazquez led the Vaqueros off the bench with 12 points and two assists while Arianis Rivera had 11 points and three boards.
- Franchesca Torres had 10 points and five assists with Alanis Ventura contributing nine points, eight rebounds and four assists.
- Carolina Toro notched six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 48.5 percent (32-of-66) of its shots with a trio of three-pointers. The Wasps shot 13-for-18 (72.2%) from the free throw line.
- Bayamon went 25-for-59 (42.4%) from the field with 13 triples. The Vaqueros were 63.6 percent (7-for-11) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 34-31 rebounding advantage and used 13 offensive rebounds to post a 16-11 margin on second-chance points.
- The Wasps led, 46-22, on points in the paint and outscored the Vaqueros, 29-9 on points off turnovers.
