Mars Hill Women’s Basketball Upends Emory & Henry Saturday In SAC Contest

MARS HILL, N.C. – The Mars Hill University Women's Basketball Team (8-5, 5-3 SAC) saw five players reach double figures in scoring on Saturday afternoon as it picked up a 108-59 win over visiting Emory & Henry University (5-8, 0-6 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference action.

How It Happened
- With the score tied, 6-6, early in the first, the Lions scored 14 in a row to make it a 20-6 contest with 3:48 on the clock. MHU pushed the lead to 30-14 at the end of the period. Mars Hill continued its offensive outpouring in the second quarter with a 16-2 run over the first four and a half minutes on the way to a 55-25 advantage at the intermission.
- Returning to action in the third, the teams went toe-to-toe as each scored 20 points to make it a 75-45 contest. In the fourth, the Lions started on a 20-6 run for a 95-51 lead as they rolled to the 108-59 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) led the Wasps with 16 points and two rebounds while senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and two steals.
- Sophomore guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) went for 11 points and five boards as freshman guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) posted 10 points and three rebounds off the bench.

Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Aaliyah El posted 22 points, four rebounds two assists and two steals while Maddie Gillie added 22 points of her own with six three-pointers.
- Tateyoina Harris went for 12 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals with Tatem Bowen notching 12 points off the bench. Jadyiah Peoples chipped in 10 points, four steals and three assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit 25-of-63 (39.7%) of its field goals, making just one three-pointer. The Wasps shot 66.7 percent (8-for-12) at the free throw line.
- Mars Hill went 54.2 percent (45-for-83) from the floor with 13 triples on the afternoon. The Lions made five-of-six (83.3%) at the stripe.
- MHU held a 42-37 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 16-7 margin on second-chance points.
- The Lions also led 58-44 on points in the paint and 41-8 on points off turnovers.
