
WINGATE, N.C. – The Wingate University Women's Basketball Team (7-4, 6-1 SAC) opened up a 16-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back as it topped Emory & Henry University (5-9, 0-7 SAC) by a 69-42 score Wednesday in South Atlantic Conference action.

How It Happened
- The Bulldogs rushed out to a 9-0 lead at the 6:45 mark of the opening period. After a three-point basket by E&H, Wingate reeled off the next 10 for a 19-3 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- Early in the second WU extended its lead to 23-3, but a 9-1 run by the Wasps made it a 24-12 contest. The squads traded baskets for the remainder of the frame with the Bulldogs taking a 34-18 margin into the locker room.
- Wingate scored eight in a row on the return to action, pressing the lead out to 24 (42-18) with 8:17 on the clock. E&H pushed back, closing the gap back to 16 with a 15-7 run to match the Bulldogs' scoring for the second period in a row and a 49-33 contest.
- The Bulldogs scored 11 of the first 13 points of the fourth to extend the lead to 25 at 60-35 with 5:14 to go. The Wasps got within 22 down the stretch with a 7-4 run but the last five went the way of Wingate for the 69-42 final margin.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) led the way with 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting with four rebounds while sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had eight points.
- Sophomore guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) went for five points, three rebounds and two steals while senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) chipped in four points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
Wingate Individual Leaders
- Kyleigh Bacon put up a team-high 11 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and three steals as she was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
- Anya Massey scored 10 points to go along with three rebounds and three assists while Lia Anderson went for nine points, eight rebounds and two assists.
- Anna Baraldi tacked on eight points, six rebounds and two assists off the bench.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot just 30.6 percent for the game (15-for-49) with four three-pointers. The Wasps posted a strong 8-for-9 (88.9%) performance from the free throw line.
- Wingate hit 30-of-67 (44.8%) of its field goal attempts, connecting on four shots from long range. The Bulldogs made 71.4 percent (5-of-7) of its chances at the stripe.
- WU held a 42-30 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 13-6 margin on second-chance points.
- The Bulldogs dominated the paint, 42-18, and took advantage of 22 Wasp miscues for a 21-2 lead on points off turnovers.
