
EMORY, Va. – The Mars Hill University Women's Basketball Team (11-6, 8-5 SAC) got all it wanted from Emory & Henry University (5-13, 0-12 SAC) Wednesday evening but came away with a 75-70 win in South Atlantic Conference action.

How It Happened
- The Lions jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the 5:39 mark of the opening period but an 8-2 run by the Wasps closed the gap to two points (12-10) three minutes later. E&H scored six of the final eight of the frame to tie the contest, 16-16.
- Emory & Henry went ahead 22-18 early in the second. Trailing, 28-24, MHU finished the half on an 11-2 run to take a 35-30 lead into the locker room.
- Returning to action, the Wasps scored six of the first eight to close the gap to 37-36 with 7:07 on the clock and tied things up at 41 points apiece. Emory & Henry closed the third on a 12-2 run which covered the final 3:59 to lead 53-45 with 10 minutes left to play.
- Early in the fourth, the Lions retook the lead with an 11-2 run (56-55). With the score tied, 65-all later in the quarter, MHU went back ahead at the 2:59 mark. There were four lead changes in the span of 1:18 with the Lions going ahead for good with 41 seconds remaining. The visitors sealed the win, hitting four free throws down the stretch for the 75-70 final score.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) posted a game-high 21 points, completing the double-double with 10 rebounds, two steals and two blocks while senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) had 13 points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
- Senior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) went for 11 points, five assists and two rebounds off the bench as sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had 11 points and three rebounds, connecting on a trio of three-pointers.
Mars Hill Individual Leaders
- Aaliyah El paced the Lions with 20 points, two rebounds and two steals as Tateyoina Harris had 16 points, seven boards, two assists and two blocks.
- Daisy Gale went for 16 points, seven assists, two rebounds and two steals as she hit all eight of her free throw attempts.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 26-for-60 (43.3%) from the field with eight three-point baskets. The Wasps shot 76.9 percent (10-for-13) at the free throw line.
- Mars Hill shot 54.7 percent (29-for-53) for the game but made just one shot from long range (1-for-12; 8.3%). The Lions were 16-for-23 (69.6%) at the charity stripe.
- MHU held a 31-30 rebounding advantage and used 10 offensive boards to post a 13-9 lead on second-chance points.
- The Lions also held a 52-32 lead on points in the paint.
