
HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lincoln Memorial University Women's Basketball Team (8-9, 7-7 SAC) needed an extra five minutes, but was able to escape with a 79-77 win over Emory & Henry University (5-15, 0-14 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday evening.
It was the first overtime game for the Wasps in more than five years, as they went to an additional period at Hollins University on January 15, 2020.

How It Happened
- Lincoln Memorial opened up a 14-7 lead at the 4:22 mark of the opening period. After the Wasps closed the gap to three, the Lady Railsplitters reeled off seven in the final 61 seconds to lead 21-11.
- Early in the second, LMU scored four in a row to make it a 14-point contest (25-11) with 7:51 on the clock. Trailing by 12, the Wasps scored the final four of the half for a 37-29 margin at the intermission.
- Returning to action, E&H scored 11 of the first 13 to get within one (39-38) at the 6:53 mark of the third quarter. Eight in a row by the Railsplitters pushed the gap back to nine just over a minute later but the Wasps were able to close it back down to three at 51-48. LMU used a 6-2 run to take a seven-point advantage into the final 10 minutes of regulation.
- The two squads traded baskets for much of the fourth. Trailing by eight with 4:32 left, Emory & Henry went on a 12-4 run to tie the contest at 70 and force overtime.
- The extra period saw the Wasps go up twice in the first minute. LMU scored six straight for a 78-73 lead with 46 seconds left but E&H pulled within one, 78-77. The Railsplitters went 1-for-2 at the stripe to make it a 79-77 game with 18 seconds to go giving Emory & Henry a last opportunity, but the shot caromed off the rim at the buzzer.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Freshman guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) scored a game-high 23 points for a career-best, going 8-for-13 from the field. She pulled down four rebounds and added three assists.
- Junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) had 18 points and seven boards while sophomore guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) contributed 11 points, two rebounds and two steals off the bench.
- Senior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) tacked on 10 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Lincoln Memorial Individual Leaders
- Kamil Collier scored 18 points to go along with eight rebounds as Caroline Sikkink had 18 points, seven boards and two assists.
- Lexi Patty had a double-double off the bench with 14 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals with Alexa Smiddy contributing 10 points, seven boards and five assists.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 25-for-68 (38.6%) from the field with nine three-pointers. The Wasps shot 72 percent (18-for-25) at the charity stripe.
- Lincoln Memorial made 47.4 percent (27-of-57) of its shots with eight triples. The Lady Railsplitters were 17-for-22 (77.3%) from the line.
- LMU held a 40-33 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H, 38-28, on points in the paint.
- The Wasps posted a 12-7 lead on points off turnovers, making the most of 14 Railsplitter miscues.
