
EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (6-17, 1-16 SAC) battled Wingate University (13-7, 12-4 SAC) through eight ties and 11 lead changes on Saturday afternoon but the third-place Bulldogs squeaked away with a 74-72 South Atlantic Conference win. The contest was close for all 40 minutes, with neither team leading by more than six points.

How It Happened
- E&H scored the first four points of the game and pushed their lead to six at 13-7 with 6:25 in the opening period. The Bulldogs eliminated the deficit, near the end of the quarter, going up 20-19, but the Wasps hit a bucket at the buzzer for a 21-20 advantage.
- The squads traded baskets for the entirety of the second frame with Wingate scoring the final four to go into the locker room up 38-36.
- The early part of the third was more of the same. E&H slowly built a five-point lead, 53-48, with 4:03 on the clock. The Bulldogs reeled off 10 in a row to go up 58-53 on their way to a three-point lead with 10 minutes to go.
- In the opening minute of the fourth, Wingate got its lead back to five, but Emory & Henry scored eight in a row later in the quarter to go up, 72-69. The Wasps' offense stalled down the stretch and the Bulldogs scored the final five of the contest to win, 74-72.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) had a game-high 17 points, adding five rebounds and two blocks while senior guard Hannah Spainhour (King, N.C.) went for 16 points, seven assists and three rebounds.
- Junior forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) posted 13 points, four rebounds and four blocks while senior guard Mimi Traynham (Richmond, Va.) tallied eight points, six assists, and three boards.
- Sophomore guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) went for seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Wingate Individual Leaders
- Anna Baraldi led the Bulldogs with 16 points off the bench while Laney Beale notched 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
- Aniyah Oliver notched 13 points, four rebounds and three assists as Kyleigh Bacon tacked on nine points and four boards.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 49.2 percent (29-for-59) for the game, hitting nine three-pointers. The Wasps were five-for-seven (71.4%) at the free throw line.
- Wingate hit 28-of-64 (43.8%) of its shots with eight makes from long range. The Bulldogs shot 62.5 percent (10-for-16) at the stripe.
- WU held a 38-31 rebounding advantage and used 14 offensive boards to outscore E&H, 15-4, on second-chance points.
