Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Posts Two Top Finishes Over The Weekend

ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team finished first and second at a pair of tournaments hosted by Hollins University over the weekend. The Wasps took second on Friday at the Hollins Invitational and claimed their second win of the year Sunday at the Hollins Classic.

Friday Basics

Emory & Henry
- Sophomore Ashley Underwood (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.) finished in eighth-place with a score of 108 (+36) while freshman Sierra Giramma (Sanford, Fla.) was one shot back in ninth at 109 (+37).
- Freshman Chandler Thomas (Unaka, Tenn.) shot a 116 (+44) to tie for ninth while junior Laura Mister (Herndon, Va.) carded a 126 (+54) for 14th.

The Winners
- Southern Virginia University won the event, putting three golfers in the top five with a team score of +128 (416). Emory & Henry was second at +171 while Hollins took third with a score of +203.
- Virginia Wesleyan University's Maggie Kingora took medalist honors, shooting an 88 (+16) as an individual while teammate Hannah Turner turned in a +23 (95) to finish second.

Emory & Henry
- Giramma shot a collegiate-best 98 (+26) to finish third while Underwood tied for fourth with a +33 (105).
- Thomas turned in a 108 (+36) to take sixth while Mister posted a personal best 111 (+39) to finish eighth.

The Winners
- Emory & Henry claimed the team title, shooting a program-record 422 (+134) to win by 44 strokes. Hollins was second (+178) while Sweet Briar College took third (+208).
- Kingora and Turner shot 83 (+11) and 95 (+23) for Virginia Wesleyan to finish first and second for a second-straight day.

The Awards
- The Wasps earned the series title, with the best team score over the two days of competition.
- Giramma was the number three individual, behind Kingora and Turner, respectively.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will conclude its inaugural season at the 2018 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship.
- The three-day, 54-hole event will be held between Sunday, April 22 and Tuesday, April 24 at The Champions Course at Bryan Park in Greensboro, North Carolina.
