Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Takes Third At The Scotch Invitational

LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team knocked two strokes off its Monday total as it finished in third place at The Scotch Invitational. The Wasps' score of 336 (+48) is now the second-best team round in program history.

Emory & Henry
Freshman Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) shot a program-record 74 (+2) on Tuesday, moving up 12 spots to tie for runner-up honors. She completed the tournament at +14 (84-74 – 158) for the best-ever 36-hole score for the Wasps.

Sophomore Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished in 11th place at +22 (166) with a second round of 87 (+15) while junior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) shot an 85 (+13) to end up in a four-way tie for 16th at +28 (172) for the tournament.

Freshman Hannah Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) ended the event tied for 21st overall at +34 (178) after shooting a 90 (+18) during Tuesday's round. Junior McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) shot a 96 (+24) on day two, finishing the event at +45 (T-27th).

The Winners
Methodist University's "B Team" won the tournament, carving 11 strokes off their total from Monday to finish the event at +79 (333-322 – 655). The Monarchs beat their "C Team" by just six shots (+85) on their way to the title.

Trinity Ahing of Sandhills Community College was the individual medalist, posting a +11 (79-76 – 155) over the 36-hole event to beat E&H's Hall, and Methodist's Marybeth Gainer and Alexandra Fox by three strokes (+14).

Up Next
E&H will close out the fall portion of its season on the weekend of October 29-30 at the Buzz-Off Invitational. The tournament will take place at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon, Virginia.
