Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Takes Third Place At D&E Battle At Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team got the spring portion of its schedule started over the weekend, taking third place out of five competing teams at Davis & Elkins College's Battle at Brunswick. The Wasps saw three players finish in the top 10.

Round One
Freshman Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) shot an 82 (+10) on Saturday to sit in second place while junior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) carded a 90 (+18) which was good to tie for 11th.

Sophomore Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) and freshman Hannah Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) both notched a +21 (93) to tie for 15th as junior McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) sat tied for 19th at 96 (+24). Sophomore Briah Frisbee (Leicester, N.C.) was 28th after notching a 105 (+33).

Round Two
Hall posted an 81 (+9) to finish third while Humbert carved 12 strokes off her first round, notching an 81 of her own to move up six spots into ninth place. Emily Smelcer turned in an 85 (+13) to finish tied for 10th.

Hannah Smelcer put up a 90 (+18) on Sunday, finishing tied for 16th as Quillen ended the tournament in 23rd place with a 97 (+23). Frisbee posted a 93 (+21) in the final round, moving up three places to tie for 25th.

The Winners
Beatrice Dietz from University of Charleston (W.Va.) won the event by six shots at +11, besting D&E's Paulina Navaraez (+17). Hall was another two strokes back at +19.

Charleston saw five players finish in the top eight on their way to the team title at +77. Davis & Elkins finished second at +106 while E&H was third at +119.

Up Next
The Wasps will play in Tusculum University's Agnes McAmis Memorial on Monday and Tuesday of next week. The tournament will take place at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tennessee.
