Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Finishes As The Runner-Up At The Cateechee Cup; Katie Hall Takes Medalist Honors

HARTWELL, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team completed its penultimate event of the season with freshman Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) earning medalist honors at The Cateechee Cup, hosted by Emmanuel (Ga.) College. The Wasps finished second in the field, placing a pair of players in the top five.

Results from Monday's round were not reported until the conclusion of the tournament.

Round One - Monday
Hall shot a +3 (74) on Monday to lead the field by four shots. Junior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) and sophomore Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) each posted scores of 90 (+19) to sit in seventh place.

Freshman Hannah Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) turned in a 95 (+24) which was good for ninth while junior McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) went for a 99 (+28) to take 10th.

Round Two - Tuesday
Hall completed her wire-to-wire victory, shooting a +4 (75) on Tuesday to claim medalist honors by four shots (+7).

Emily Smelcer shaved 13 strokes off her first-round score to post a 77 (+6), jumped two spots into a tie for fifth at +25 while Hannah Smelcer moved up one spot with a +19 (90) to finish eighth (+43).

Humbert posted a 97 (+26) in the second round, finishing ninth at +45 while Quillen's 100 (+29) was good for 10th overall (+57).

The Winners
Emmanuel won the event with a team score of +69, putting three players in the top four while E&H was second and +120.

Hall's closest competitor was Mara Martinez from Emmanuel, who turned in scores of 79 and 74 to finish as the runner-up at +11.

Up Next
Emory & Henry will conclude the 2022-23 season next Tuesday when it competes in 36 holes of action at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout. Milligan University will host the tournament at Elizabethton Golf Club in Elizabethton, Tennessee.
