Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Takes Second Place At The Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout Tuesday

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team concluded the 2022-23 season with a runner-up finish at the Northeast Tennessee Spring Shootout Tuesday afternoon. The Wasps saw three players finish in the top 10 in the 36-hole event.

E&H broke the school records for an 18-hole score at 314 and a 36-hole score with a 650.

Round One
Sophomore Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) fired a 79 (+7) to sit tied for fifth after 18 holes while junior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) tied for eighth at 81 (+9).

Freshman Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) turned in an 84 (+12) which was good for 13th while sophomore Briah Frisbee (Leicester, N.C.) carded a +15 (87) for 18th overall. Junior McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) carded a 96 (+24) to sit 23rd.

Round Two
Humbert shot a +3 (75) to tie for fourth place and earn a spot on the all-tournament team while Smelcer posted a 79 (+8) in the second round to finish eighth.

Hall moved up four spots after posting a 77 (+5) to tie for ninth place as Frisbee carded an 83 (+11), moving up two places to finish in a tie for 19th place. Quillen finished the tournament tied for 23rd place as she turned in a 94 (+22).

The Winners
Milligan University, the tournament host, claimed the team title with the top four players shooting rounds of 302 and 294 to complete the event at +20 (596). Emory & Henry was second after posting scores of 336 and 314 (+74).

Alayna Perryman of Milligan won the tournament with a -1 (72-71 – 143), besting teammate Kate Castle by three strokes (72-74 – 146).
