Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Wins Rain-Shortened D&E Battle At Brunswick

CALABASH, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team got the spring portion of its season started with a win at the D&E Battle at Brunswick over the weekend. The two-day, 36-hole event was shortened to an 18-hole affair due to rain on the North Carolina coast.

Additionally, the Wasps swept the individual awards as sophomore Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) took first on a scorecard playoff while freshman Abby Bradley (Castlewood, Va.) was the runner-up.

Round One
Hall and Bradley each shot a +8 (80) on Friday to sit tied for first place. Senior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) was one stroke back in fourth at 81 (+9).

Junior Briah Frisbee (Leicester, N.C.) carded an 84 (+12) to finish in a three-way tie for sixth while junior Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) tied for 10th at 87 (+15).

The Winners
With their rounds of 80, Hall, Bradley and Aubrey Merryman from North Greenville University tied for first place before the scorecard playoff.

The Wasps put all four of their scoring golfers in the top six to shoot a 325 (+37), defeating NGU by six strokes (+43; 331).

Record Performances
Hall and Bradley broke the E&H record for the best 18-hole tournament for an individual by three strokes.

The team's score of 325 was 25 shots better than the previous top 18-hole tournament.

Emory & Henry will be back in action on Monday, March 18 and Tuesday, March 19 at the Barton Intercollegiate at Wilson Country Club in Wilson, North Carolina.
