Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Takes Second At The Northeast Tennessee Collegiate Tuesday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team closed out the regular season with a team runner-up finish at The Northeast Tennessee Collegiate on Tuesday. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by Milligan University, was played at Johnson City Country Club.

Additionally, the Wasps saw sophomore Katie Hall (Abingdon, Va.) finish as the individual runner-up while freshman Abby Bradley (Castlewood, Va.) took sixth place.

Round One
Hall opened the day with a round of 77 (+5) to sit in second place while Bradley was eighth after firing an 80 (+8). Junior Briah Frisbee (Leicester, N.C.) tied for ninth at +9 (81) with senior Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) posting an 85 (+13) which was good for 17th.

Junior Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) rounded out the team at 24th with a +18 (90).

Senior McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) shot a +31 as an individual which was good for 42nd.

Round Two
Hall held onto her second-place position as she posted a +4 (76) to end the tournament at +9 (153) as Bradley moved up two spots into sixth place overall with a 78 (+6) for a score of +14 (158).

Frisbee dropped a pair of places into 11th overall after shooting an 83 (+11) to end the event at +20 (164) while Smelcer fell six spots with a round of 90 (+18) to finish tied for 23rd at +31 (175). Humbert slipped by four spots into a tie for 28th at +34 (178) with a final round of +16 (88).

Quillen trimmed nine strokes off her first round to shoot a +22, remaining 42nd at +53 (197).

The Winners
Sarah Castle of Milligan won the event by two shots at +7 (75-76 – 151) with E&H's Hall and MU's Mallory TeVrucht two strokes back at +9.

The Buffaloes claimed the team title with a score of +38 (306-308 – 614) as the Wasps were second as a team at +72 (323-325 – 648).

Up Next
Emory & Henry will host its annual Blue & Gold Intrasquad with both the men's and women's teams in competition at Glenrochie Country Club on Sunday.

The Wasps will play in the South Atlantic Conference Championship beginning Sunday, April 14 through Tuesday, April 16. The 54-hole event will be hosted by Catawba College at Salisbury Country Club.
