Davis & Elkins Women’s Lacrosse Takes Down Emory & Henry Sunday Afternoon

ELKINS, W. Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (0-3) fell in non-conference action to Davis & Elkins College (1-0) Sunday afternoon. The Senators scored early and often on their way to a 20-2 victory.

How It Happened
- The Senators got the scoring underway just under three minutes into the contest when Ke'ya Stevens buried a shot to make it 1-0 D&E. The home team added another score 19 seconds later to double its lead. Davis & Elkins would tack on four more goals throughout the remainder of the quarter to take a 6-0 advantage at the end of one.
- D&E continued to push the pace as they scored the first four goals of the second stanza to run their lead out to 10-0. Sophomore midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) got the Wasps on the board at the 5:24 mark of the second quarter as she found the back of the net for her eighth tally of the season. The Senators scored twice more as they took a 12-1 margin into the halftime break.
- Davis & Elkins picked up where it left off to begin the third quarter, scoring the first five goals of the period to increase the lead out to 17-1. Freshman attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) broke up the Senators' run with a goal assisted by Jones just five seconds before the end of the quarter.
- The Senators added three more goals in the fourth quarter to take the win by a 20-2 final score. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones had a goal and an assist to lead the Wasps while McHargue added the other score. Jones, freshman midfielder Bri Leech (Forest, Va.) and sophomore defender Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) each recorded a team-high three ground balls. Freshman defender Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) led the defense with a pair of caused turnovers.
- Junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Evans (Gambrills, Md.) came up with a season-high 16 saves between the pipes and forced a team-high three turnovers.

Davis & Elkins Individual Leaders
- Stevens finished with four goals while Jessica Dwyer had a game-high five points with her four goals and an assist. Zoe Mackey recorded a game-high five ground balls to lead the Senators.
- Marissa Cuevas made two saves in net for D&E.

- Emory & Henry embarks on the second leg of its five-match road trip on Saturday, February 17 when the Wasps make the trip to take on the Lions of Emmanuel (Ga.) University. First draw is scheduled for noon.
