West Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Lacrosse Downs Emory & Henry, 21-7, Saturday Afternoon

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (0-6) fell to West Virginia Wesleyan College (1-2) in non-conference action Saturday afternoon. The Bobcats earned the win by a 21-7 margin.

How It Happened
- The Bobcats took an early 2-0 lead, but freshman attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) got the Wasps on the board at the 10:01 mark to cut the deficit in half. West Virginia Wesleyan made it 3-1 before junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) tallied her first of the game on an assist from freshman attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) to run the score to 3-2. Two more from the home team made it 5-2 until E&H responded with back-to-back goals from Halter, assisted by McHargue, and sophomore midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.), assisted by Hicks, to draw within one. WVWC tacked on two more to start the second quarter, then McHargue found the back of the net to make it 7-5 in favor of the home team. The Bobcats scored five unanswered goals to end the half and took the 12-5 advantage into the halftime break.
- E&H was first to score in the second half when freshman midfielder Meg Bruner (Otto, N.C.) recorded her first career collegiate goal to trim the deficit to 12-6. The Bobcats went on another run, this one of a 6-0 variety, to lead 18-6 heading into the final quarter of play. Bruner tallied her second of the day with 3:22 remaining on an assist from Hicks to bring the score to its final at 21-7. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- McHargue and Hicks each finished with a goal and a pair of assists to pace the Wasps while McHargue scooped up a game-high 10 ground balls. Halter and Bruner tallied two scores apiece in the afternoon. Sophomore defender Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) had a team-high four caused turnovers.
- Freshman goalkeeper Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) posted a game-high 17 saves in net for the Wasps.

West Virginia Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Talia Berardo led all scorers with five goals and three assists for a total of eight points while Erin Mobley added five goals and one assist. Noelle Fuller contributed three goals in the winning effort for the Bobcats.
- Gabriella Gomez finished with five saves in goal to earn the win.

- E&H continues out of conference play on Saturday, March 9 when the Wasps make the trip to take on the Trojans of Virginia State University. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m..
