History Made! Emory & Henry Women’s Lacrosse Swarms Sweet Briar, 15-1, For Program’s First Win

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (1-9) made history Sunday evening as it earned the program's first-ever victory in a 15-1 romp over Sweet Briar College (2-5). Five different Wasps posted at least one goal in the historic win.

How It Happened
- The Wasps were first on the board at the 10:07 mark as freshman attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) buried a shot for her fifth goal of the season to put E&H on top 1-0. E&H continued to create chances, outshooting the Vixens 7-5, but the score would remain at 1-0 heading into the second quarter.
- The Emory & Henry offense got going early in the second stanza when sophomore midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) found the back of the net just 45 seconds into the frame. Freshman midfielder Meg Bruner (Otto, N.C.) would follow suit on a free-position shot with 11:29 on the clock to make it 3-0. Junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) caught fire through the middle stages of the quarter, scoring three consecutive goals over a four minute span to balloon the lead out to 6-0. Jones added two more before the half for good measure to give the Wasps an 8-0 margin heading into the break.
- Freshman attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) opened the second-half scoring just 21 seconds into the frame with her tenth of the season and Jones added her fourth and fifth of the game to increase the E&H lead to 11-0. The Vixens broke up the shutout with a goal from Valen Foster to make it 11-1, but Hicks responded with her fourth of the game at the 6:53 mark and rounded out the quarter with her fifth tally to make it 13-1 heading into the fourth.
- Hicks tacked on another, this one of the man-down variety, and McHargue recorded her second of the game as the Wasps cruised to the 15-1 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hicks paced the Wasps with a team-high six goals, five ground balls and a team-high four caused turnovers while Jones finished with five goals, a team-high five draw controls and a ground ball.
- Bruner had a goal, three caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. McHargue stuffed the stat sheet with a pair of goals, two assists, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and a draw control. Freshman midfielder Cadence Spaulding (Christiansburg, Va.) finished with three ground balls and a pair of draw controls.
- Freshman goalkeeper Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) had seven saves in goal for the Wasps while posting four ground balls and a caused turnover en route to earning her first career win. 

Sweet Briar Individual Leaders
- Foster recorded the lone goal of the game for Sweet Briar as she also had one ground ball, one draw control and a pair of caused turnovers. Jamison Tarver scooped up a match-high six ground balls and assisted on the Foster goal.
- Kat Navarro registered eight saves and two ground balls in goal for the Vixens in the loss.

- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, March 27 when the Wasps make the short trip to take on Southwest Virginia rivals the University of Virginia's College at Wise. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Carl Smith Stadium.
