UVA Wise Women's Lacrosse Downs Emory & Henry, 22-3, In Southwest Virginia Rivalry Wednesday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (3-8, 0-7 SAC) fell to Southwest Virginia rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise (5-8, 2-5 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers ran out to a 13-2 halftime lead on their way to the 22-3 victory.

How It Happened
- The visitors from Wise put up eight goals in the opening period of play and kept the Wasps off of the scoreboard for the early 8-0 advantage. The Cavaliers scored twice more in the early stages of the second period to push the margin out to 10-0, but E&H responded at the 7:25 mark when senior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) found junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) who beat the goalie for her 15th goal of the season. The Wasps struck again with 4:44 remaining in the half as Hicks dished to junior attacker Logan Pekala (Vinton, Va.) who found the back of the net for her first career goal to make the score 10-2. Wise recorded three more unanswered tallies to take the 13-2 lead into the half.
- UVA Wise came out of the break roaring as the Cavaliers scored five in the third period and four more in the fourth period to run their advantage out to 22-2. The Wasps had the final say when Hicks found Jones once again for her second goal of the game to run the score to its final at 22-3.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones finished with two goals, four draw controls and a ground ball while Hicks had three assists, one ground ball and a draw control. Sophomore midfielder Natalie Harris (Hillsville, Va.) contributed three ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers.
- Sophomore defender Reagan Koom (Omaha, Neb.) caused a team-high three turnovers and scooped up a ground ball while senior defender Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) added two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.
- Sophomore goalie Cyrianna Lee (Tampa, Fla.) made three saves in goal for the Wasps.

UVA Wise Individual Leaders
- Noley Hiller went for a game-high five goals, two assists and caused a turnover while Leslie Clay, Grace Golatt and Logen Davis all recorded three goals.
- Addie Donalson and Katie Michaels split time in net as they combined for three saves in the win.

- Emory & Henry steps out of conference play this Sunday, April 6 when the Wasps travel to take on the Owls of Warren Wilson College. First draw is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Swannanoa, North Carolina.
