
SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (4-8) earned its fourth win of the year Sunday afternoon as the Wasps defeated Warren Wilson College (5-7) on the road in non-conference play. E&H saw nine different players record a goal on its way to the comfortable 20-5 victory. The Wasps also set new program records with 20 goals and largest margin of victory at 15.

How It Happened
- The Owls were first on the board as they scored with just 41 seconds elapsed off of the clock in the first period, but the Wasps would answer back with nine unanswered goals in the frame. Senior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) got the scoring parade started with an unassisted score, then found freshman midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) who beat the goalie to make it 2-1 with 11:05 remaining in the first. Hicks struck again just under three minutes later on an assist from junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.). Freshman midfielder Sophie Rozen (Shallotte, N.C.) got in on the scoring next with her third goal of the season and Jones found the back of the next 20 seconds later on an assist from freshman midfielder Madison Stewart (Blacksburg, Va.) to run the E&H advantage out to 5-1. Sophomore attacker Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) made it 6-1 unassisted, then added another goal at the 1:02 mark on a helper from Jones. Hicks scored with 24 seconds left and Beecher rounded out the first period with a goal on another assist from Jones as time expired to give the Wasps a comfortable 9-1 margin.
- Stewart would balloon the score out to 10-1 to begin the second frame before the Owls were able to put a halt to the run with a goal from Callie Aerni to cut the deficit to 10-2. Junior attacker Logan Pekala (Vinton, Va.) added her name to the score sheet with a free-position goal and freshman attacker Kaylee Rosales-Valdez (Snellville, Ga.) recorded her first career collegiate goal on an assist from Beecher at the 10:05 mark. Hicks found freshman midfielder Alex Costello (Johnson City, Tenn.) for another tally and the score stood at 13-2 in favor of the visitors from Emory. Warren Wilson would get a couple goals back before the end of the half and the Wasps took the 13-4 lead into the halftime break.
- It was all Wasps in the third period as Hicks scored on a free-position opportunity then dished to Beecher, who registered her fourth goal of the game. Beecher continued her monster afternoon at the 8:15 mark as she scored unassisted and Hicks followed suit with an unassisted goal of her own to run the E&H lead out to 17-4 heading into the final period of play.
- Beecher capped off her day with yet another unassisted goal to give her six for the afternoon. Jones scored again on an assist from Hicks with 10 minutes to play and Holland recorded the final Emory & Henry goal of the afternoon unassisted with 8:20 on the clock to send the score out to 20-4. WWC would tally one final goal with 52 left for the 20-5 final.

- Hicks finished with five goals and four assists for a career-high nine total points, while collecting four draw controls and three ground balls and causing four turnovers. Beecher went for a career-high six goals, one assist and caused a turnover. Jones had two goals, three assists, a game-high eight ground balls, three draw controls and forced a game-high seven turnovers.
- Senior defender Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) recorded three ground balls and caused three turnovers while freshman defender Jill Mayes (Raleigh, N.C.) added three ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers. Sophomore defender Natalie Harris (Hillsville, Va.) scooped up a pair of ground balls and caused three turnovers in the win.
- Sophomore goalie Cyrianna Lee (Tampa, Fla.) made five saves in goal for the Wasps to earn her first career win.
Warren Wilson Individual Leaders
- Sydney Weber had a team-high four goals, 13 draw controls, two ground balls and forced five turnovers to pace the Owls. Aerni added one goal, two assists, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Apollo Grieves had six saves in between the pipes for WWC.
Up Next
- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Friday, April 11 when the Wasps play host to the Cobras of Coker University. First draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the second half of a doubleheader with the men's team.
