He led the Wasps to four victories during his first year at the helm, including guiding E&H to scoring the most goals in a game in program history and largest margin of victory in a 20-5 drubbing of Warren Wilson College (Apr. 6). Under Szejk, the Wasps increased their team totals in goals from 85 to 116 and assists to 47 from 27. E&H also tightened up the defensive efforts as the Wasps caused 152 turnovers compared to just 109 in the program's first year of competition.
Prior to Emory, Szejk was the Head Varsity Girls’ Lacrosse Coach at Mechanicsburg Area Senior High School in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. In his final season, Szejk led the Lady Wildcats to break the school record for wins and earned the program’s first playoff berth.
Szejk earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Slippery Rock University and a Master’s Degree in educational leadership from Shippensburg University. He enjoyed a 30-year career in private and public education while serving state-side and internationally. His career included roles of teacher and principal and he was a multi-sport coach with experience in ice hockey, volleyball, basketball, field hockey and lacrosse. Szejk's most-rewarding professional accomplishments include a pair of ACCLAIM Master Teacher Awards, Coach of the Year and a two-time ice hockey national champion as a player and coach for Mexico Ice Hockey.
Szejk is a native of Central Pennsylvania and is married with two daughters. Matt’s youngest daughter plays for the Mexico Senior Women’s National Lacrosse Team and is a senior attacker for the University of Louisville.
