Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At Cougar Classic On Sunday

DANVILLE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team kept its season going over the weekend at the Cougar Open, hosted by Averett University. The Wasps saw ten athletes compete across nine different weight classes.

125 Pounds
- Sophomore Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) won his opening match by a 12-10 decision before falling in the second round. Hernandez then picked up a win by major decision (20-8) in the second consolation round, but came up short in the third round.

133 Pounds
- Sophomore Avery Almany (Bristol, Va.) was defeated by tech fall and fall in his two matches of the tournament.

141 Pounds
- Freshman Logan Arnold (Rocky Mount, Va.) was beaten by fall in his opening match then was victorious by fall in consolation round two. Arnold came up short in the third consolation round, losing by tech fall. 

149 Pounds
- Freshman Collin Davidson (Abingdon, Va.) dropped both of his matches on the afternoon.
- Sophomore Bryan Carter (Bedford, Va.) came up short in both of his matches, one by fall and one by tech fall.

157 Pounds
- Sophomore Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) dropped his opening match of the day but bounced back with a 17-9 win by major decision in the first consolation round. Field would then bow out in the second round.

165 Pounds
- Freshman Konor Gray (Winston-Salem, N.C.) fell in the first round of the preliminaries but earned a victory by fall in the second preliminary round. Gray came up short by a 7-6 decision in the first consolation round.

174 Pounds
- Freshman Alex Baumberger (Glade Hill, Va.) picked up a win by forfeit in round one before dropping a hard-fought second-round decision by sudden victory. Baumberger then fell in the second consolation round by another narrow 7-6 decision. 

197 Pounds
- Freshman Hunter Brown (Vinton, Va.) dropped his opening match in the championship round but responded with back-to-back wins in the first two consolation rounds. Brown would come up short in the third consolation round. 

285 Pounds
- Junior Wade Wheeler (Amherst, Va.) picked up a win by fall in the opening championship round before being bounced in the second round. Wheeler would pick up another win in the consolation second round, but came up short in the third round.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return to action on Thursday in duals against South Atlantic Conference Carolinas opponent Lander University and non-conference opponent Allen University. Both duals will be hosted by Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina.
