Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Takes Eighth At NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships Saturday; Three Wasps Qualify For NCWA National Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team competed at the NCWA Mid-Atlantic Championships hosted by Liberty University on Saturday. The Wasps finished eighth as a team.

E&H saw three different wrestlers qualify for the NCWA National Championship. Sophomores Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) and Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) will be making their second appearances on the national stage while sophomore Tony Washington, Jr. (Cordova, Tenn.) earns his first berth to nationals.

125 Pounds
- Hernandez won his opening match by forfeit before falling in the second round by fall. Hernandez then was victorious by fall in the second consolation round before losing in the third consolation round by technical fall and coming up short in the seventh-place match to finish in eighth.

133 Pounds
- Sophomore Avery Almany (Bristol, Va.) was defeated by fall in his two matches of the tournament.

149 Pounds
- Freshman Collin Davidson (Abingdon, Va.) dropped both of his matches of the tournament by fall.

157 Pounds
- Field won his opening round match by decision (5-3) before losing by technical fall in the second round. Field then wrestled through the consolation bracket, picking up one win by sudden victory, one by medical forfeit and one by decision (11-8). Field came up just short in the third-place match to take fourth.

174 Pounds
- Washington earned a win by fall in the opening round and dispatched his opponent by major decision (11-2) in the second round before dropping his third round match by fall. Washington, Jr. then picked up a win by decision (10-8) in the consolation bracket before falling in the third-place match to take home fourth. 

197 Pounds
- Freshman Hunter Brown (Vinton, Va.) dropped his opening match by fall but bounced back to win two consecutive consolation bracket matches and was victorious in the seventh-place match.

- E&H will next compete at the NCWA National Championships at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico on the weekend of March 9-11.
