Emory & Henry Men's Wrestling Finishes 11th At Averett Cougar Open

DANVILLE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team continued its season at the Averett Cougar Open hosted by Averett University on Sunday, November 12. The Wasps placed three different wrestlers on the podium and finished 11th as a team out of the field of 25.

125 Pounds
- Junior Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) dropped his first match of the day by an 18-3 technical fall margin, before bowing out in his first consolation round match by a 20-3 technical fall scoreline.

133 Pounds
- Sophomore Logan Arnold (Rocky Mount, Va.) opened up his day with a win in his championship round bout by a narrow 6-2 decision before falling in the second round by an 11-4 decision to Giovanni DeGeorge of Liberty. He then lost by fall in his first consolation round match. 

141 Pounds
- Junior Isaiah Dotson (Jonesville, Va.) fell in his championship round match by a 17-1 technical fall margin before dropping his first consolation round match by a 19-8 major decision. 
- Junior Avery Almany (Bristol, Va.) came up short in his opening championship round bout by fall in 6:35. He then defeated Evan Slack of East Carolina University Club Wrestling by fall in 34 seconds in his opening consolation round bout. Almany ended his day with a loss to Hunter Ballantine of Shenandoah University by technical fall 19-4.

157 Pounds
- Freshman Isaac Harris (Berkeley Springs, Va.) started the day with a 20-9 major decision victory over Suhaib Hatamleh of Queens (N.C.) University in the first championship round before falling in the second round by a narrow 9-5 decision. Harris then topped teammate Tristan Lorenz by fall in 2:57. Harris followed up with a 16-1 tech fall win over Thomas Allison of The Apprentice School and an 8-2 decision win over Nick Young of Roanoke College. He then topped Roanoke's Andru Boyd by a 7-5 decision to reach the fifth-place match. Harris forfeited the final match of the day due to reaching his daily limit, to finish in sixth place in his first collegiate appearance.
- Freshman Tristan Lorenz (Fries, Va.) opened his day with a loss by fall in 1:38 in the first championship round. Lorenz then defeated Xavier Locke of Shenandoah University by fall in 1:39. He bowed out in the second consolation round with a loss to teammate Harris by fall in 2:57. 
- Junior Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) lost his opening round match by fall in 4:38 before bouncing back with a 10-7 win in sudden victory over Ferrum College's Perry Roller. Field followed up with another victory, this one by a 13-1 major decision against Jacob Latorre of Bluefield State. Field bowed out in the following round with a 13-8 decision loss to Pahris Petalas of Marymount. 

165 Pounds
- Freshman Sebastian Gaberrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) opened the day with a win on a 9-3 decision over Isaac Ponce of Marymount before dropping his second championship round bout by a 13-5 major decision. Gaberette rebounded with a win in his first consolation bout as he pinned Rhys Carlson of The Apprentice School in 2:39. Gaberette's day came to an end in the following round with a 12-6 decision loss to Coker's Obed Don.
- Junior Tony Washington, Jr. (Cordova, Tenn.) kicked off his day with back-to-back wins by fall in 1:21 and 3:17 to advance to the third championship round where he would be felled by Roanoke's Andrew MacDougal by a 19-2 technical fall. Washington, Jr. would bounce back with wins by fall in 3:26 and a 20-5 technical fall to reach the fifth-place match. He finished off his day with a 9-7 decision over Josh Epperly of Roanoke to take home fifth. 

174 Pounds
- Freshman A.J. Marshall (Culpeper, Va.) posted a win in his opening round as he pinned Shannon Frey of West Virginia Tech in 1:23. Marshall backed that up with another win, this one by a 9-7 decision over Allen University's Micheal Jackson. He then fell to Sebastian Shered of Queens (N.C.) by an 11-1 major decision. He then rebounded with back-to-back wins in the consolation round by a 12-9 decision and fall in 1:51 respectively to reach the fifth-place match. Marshall rounded out his day with a 16-3 victory by major decision over Kyle Lee of Roanoke College to take home fifth place.

184 Pounds
- Freshman Evan Alger (Pulaski, Va.) fell in his opening round match as he was forced to abandon the bout due to injury after 3:46.

285 Pounds
- Sophomore Hunter Brown (Vinton, Va.) came up short in his opening match by an 8-1 decision. Brown then topped teammate Hoover by fall in 2:24 before being pinned by Joshua Voelkel of Queens (N.C.) in the following round.
- Freshman Dylon Hoover (Weyers Cave, Va.) dropped his opening match of the day by fall in 3:28 to Brady Elswick of Roanoke College before being pinned by teammate Brown in his first consolation bout.

- Emory & Henry is back in action on Tuesday, November 14 when they make the trip to South Carolina to take on Conference Carolinas opponent No. 17 nationally-ranked Newberry College. First bout is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Eleazer Arena.
