Emory & Henry Men's Wrestling Finishes Eighth At Hawk Classic Open

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team got back into the swing of things with its first competition after the Winter Break at the Hawk Classic Open hosted by Huntingdon College Sunday afternoon. The Wasps had eight athletes competing in six different weight classes and saw sophomore Logan Arnold (Rocky Mount, Va.) win his division to take home medalist honors. E&H finished eighth as a squad out of the field of 16 teams.

125 Pounds
- Junior Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) received a bye in the first round before defeating Cedric Abney of Jarvis Christian College by a 22-17 decision. He then fell to Bobby Estrada of Cumberland (Tenn.) by fall in the quarterfinals and bowed out to Aiden Fonder of Wisconsin-Stevens Point by technical fall in the fourth consolation round.

133 Pounds
- Arnold won his opening championship round match against Christian Williams of Life University by fall before earning another win in his quarterfinals bout over Alex Edwards of Florida A&M by fall. Arnold pinned Easton Bishop of Reinhardt University in the semifinals before taking medalist honors by winning the first-place match by medical forfeit over Ivan Arguello of Cumberland (Tenn.)

149 Pounds
- Sophomore Collin Davidson (Abingdon, Va.) fell in his opening championship round bout to Tyler Garrett of Reinhardt University by technical fall before dropping his second consolation round match to Will Keener of Kentucky Wesleyan by fall. 

165 Pounds
- Freshman Sebastian Gaberrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) received a bye in the opening championship round then pinned Xavier Montemayor of Jarvis Christian College in the second round. He came up short to Kiesean Stephens of Life University by technical fall in the quarterfinals before bouncing back with a technical fall victory over Life University's Alexander Clark in the fourth consolation round. Gaberrete's day came to an end in the fifth consolation round with a loss by fall to Josh Heuss of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
- Freshman Tristan Lorenz (Fries, Va.) received a first-round bye before losing by fall to Gabriel Sweat of Huntingdon College in the second championship round. Lorenz then fell to Jack Hill of Lincoln Memorial University by fall in the second consolation round.

174 Pounds
- Freshman A.J. Marshall (Culpeper, Va.) received an opening-round bye before earning a major decision win over Joshua Lange to advance to the quarterfinals. Marshall took down Nick Kendrick of Huntingdon College in his quarterfinal bout by a narrow 7-6 decision, but fell in the semis to Cameron Nesbitt by another close 6-5 decision. He responded with a technical fall win against Cody Weix of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in the consolation semifinals, then had to bow out to Kendrick in the third-place match due to medical forfeit to take home fourth place. 

285 Pounds
- Sophomore Hunter Brown (Vinton, Va.) began his day with a win by forfeit over Rubin Izzard in the opening championship round then lost by fall to Christion Curry of Huntingdon College in the second round. Brown dispatched teammate Dylon Hoover by fall in the second consolation round before exiting the competition with a loss by fall to Chandler Allen of Allen University in the third consolation round.
- Freshman Dylon Hoover (Weyers Cave, Va.) dropped his opening match of the day by fall to Gavin Harper of Reinhardt University before being pinned by teammate Brown in his first consolation bout.

- Emory & Henry returns home on Wednesday, January 10 when they host the Falcons of Montevallo University in a Conference Carolinas dual for Military Appreciation Day. First bout is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
