Emory & Henry Women's Rugby Picks Up Win At Guilford Sevens Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Emory & Henry College Women's Rugby Team (4-6) earned its fourth win of the season Sunday, October 15 at the Guilford Sevens Tournament. The Wasps defeated the Owls of Warren Wilson College after falling to Lander University and the host Guilford College.

The Lander Match
- The Bearcats ran out to a big lead at 27-0, but freshman Emily Maddox (Amherst, Va.) broke through the Lander line late in the second half to find the try zone and break the shutout for the 27-5 final.

The Guilford Match
- The Quakers jumped out front early in the first half to make it 5-0 but E&H would respond later in the half when freshman Grace Hamilton (Abingdon, Va.) gashed through the Guilford line and galloped fifty yards for a try to level the score at 5-5. Guilford would go on to post three tries and a conversion kick in the half for the final score of 22-5. 

The Warren Wilson Match
- The Wasps struck first in their third match of the day when junior Meredith Inge (Ashland, Va.) offloaded to Maddox who sprinted to the try zone to give E&H the 5-0 lead. The Owls would respond with a try to tie the score at 5-5 before senior Pearl Dill (Hardy, Va.) found sophomore Gracie Wall (Winder, Ga.), who ran around the Warren Wilson defense for another try to make it 10-5. E&H added to its lead in the second half on Maddox's third try of the day on an assist from senior Karrah James (Wytheville, Va.) to run the score to 15-10. James had her second assist of the match, this time to Hamilton. Inge was good with the conversion kick and the match ended 22-10 in favor of the Wasps.

Maddox was named Emory & Henry Player of the Tournament as she tallied three tries to lead the Wasps.
