Emory & Henry Women's Rugby Rolls To 3-0 Record At Bleed Crimson 7's

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Emory & Henry University Women's Rugby Team (7-2) continued its winning ways on Saturday, September 28 as the Wasps went a perfect 3-0 at the Bleed Crimson 7's Tournament hosted by Guilford College. E&H defeated Newberry College 24-7, Guilford College 32-17 and UNC Greensboro 25-5.

The Newberry Match
- The Wasps got the day underway with a rematch against the Wolves of Newberry College. Freshman Alana Walker (Clayton, N.C.) got E&H on the board first as she sliced through the defense to find the try zone. Senior Meredith Inge (Ashland, Va.) was good on the conversion kick and the Wasps led 7-0. E&H added to its advantage with a try from junior Shina Kintu (Entebbe, UGANDA) and another from Walker. Inge made another conversion kick and the score stood at 19-0. Newberry had one score to cut into the lead but freshman Kayla Spiegel (Jersey City, N.J.) reached the try zone to put the finishing touches on the 24-7 victory.

The Guilford Match
- Spiegel opened up the scoring in the second match of the day with back-to-back tries early on. Walker and Inge followed with a pair of tries as the Wasps looked for their second win of the afternoon. Walker tacked on her third score of the day and Spiegel tallied her fourth while Inge added the conversion kick as the Wasps rolled to the 32-17 win.

The UNC Greensboro Match
- E&H continued to pour it on in their third match against UNC Greensboro. Sophomore Emma Falatic (Roanoke, Va.) was first on the scoreboard for Emory & Henry as she found the try zone. Freshman Anna Branch (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) added another to increase the Wasps score to 10. Fellow freshmen Allison Holcombe (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Nathaly Olivera (Charlotte, N.C.) followed suit moments later to make it 20-0. After a score from UNC Greensboro, freshman Jillian Orseno (Tarentum, Pa.) ended the day with the final try for the 25-5 final score.

Orseno was named Emory & Henry Player of the Tournament for her play during the tournament.

Up Next
- The Wasps will return to the pitch on Sunday, October 13 against the Cardinals of Wheeling University in a 15's match exhibition. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from the Emory & Henry Rugby Field.
