How It Happened
- The Wasps wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as junior Gracie Wall (Winder, Ga.) offloaded to freshman Alana Walker (Clayton, N.C.), who found the try zone. Wall was good on the conversion kick and E&H led 7-0. The home team struck again moments later when Walker dished to freshman Kylie Richards (Painted Post, N.Y.) to make it 12-0. Guilford broke through with their first try of the afternoon to trim the deficit to 12-5, but the Wasps had a quick response when Wall found freshman Kayla Spiegel (Jersey City, N.J.) and another Wall kick pushed the lead out to 19-5 at the end of the opening quarter.
- The Quakers got the second frame underway with a try and conversion kick to cut the Wasps' advantage to 19-12. E&H answered with a methodical drive down the pitch which resulted in another try for Walker on an assist from senior Pearl Dill (Hardy, Va.) and the kick from senior Meredith Inge (Ashland, Va.) pushed the margin back out to 26-12. The Wasps continued to push the tempo as they scored on a designed play out of a scrum, ending with a try from sophomore Emma Falatic (Roanoke, Va.) assisted by Richards to make it 31-12 to end the half.
- E&H opened the second half with a long run from sophomore Alexia Hurdle (Smiths, BERMUDA), who offloaded to Spiegel for her second try of the afternoon, running the score to 36-12. Guilford answered immediately as they took the kickoff straight down the field to reduce the gap back to 36-17. The Wasps once more had an answer on the next possession when freshman Emerson Hayes (Wake Forest, N.C.) dished to fellow freshman Nathaly Olivera (Charlotte, N.C.) who found the try zone and another Wall kick made it 43-17. The Quakers tallied the next try to bring themselves back within 43-22 heading into the final quarter.
- Spiegel found Wall for another try to kick off the final quarter of play to balloon the Wasps' advantage out to 48-22. Guilford followed with back-to-back tries to pull back within 48-32, but E&H put the finishing touches on the win on a try from Hayes on an assist by Walker to run the score to its final at 53-32.
Hurdle was named Emory & Henry Player of the Match for her play during the match.
